Syrup Levopront
Syrup Levopront

Levopront is an antitussive agent.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - syrup: transparent, colorless or with a slight yellowish tinge, with a characteristic cherry smell (120 or 200 ml each in dark glass vials, sealed with a high-density polyethylene lid, equipped with child protection; in a cardboard box 1 bottle complete with measuring cup and instructions for use of Levopront).

Composition of 1 ml of syrup:

  • active substance: levodropropizine - 6 mg;
  • auxiliary components: methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium hydroxide, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sucrose, purified water, citric acid monohydrate, cherry flavor.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active substance of Levopront - levodropropizine, is an antitussive agent, the activity of which is due to a peripheral effect on the tracheobronchial tree.

The mechanism of action of the drug is based on its ability to slow down the transmission of nerve impulses inside C-fibers by suppressing the release of neuropeptide sensors from them.

Levodropropizine does not depress the respiratory center and does not affect mucociliary clearance. In chronic respiratory failure, it does not suppress the respiratory system either with hypercapnic ventilation or with spontaneous breathing.

Pharmacokinetics

When administered orally, levodropropizine is rapidly absorbed and distributed in the human body. Its bioavailability is over 75%. The connection with plasma proteins is insignificant (11-14%).

The half-life (T 1/2) is 1-2 hours. It is excreted by the kidneys unchanged and in the form of metabolites (conjugated levodropropizine and conjugated p-hydroxylevodropropizine). 48 hours after ingestion, their renal excretion is approximately 35%.

With multiple doses, the pharmacokinetics of Levopront does not change. Cumulation of the drug in the body is not observed.

The pharmacological profile of levodropropizine in adults, children, the elderly and patients with mild to moderate renal impairment does not differ significantly.

Indications for use

Levopront is intended for the symptomatic treatment of dry unproductive cough with the aim of relieving it, concomitant with the following diseases: laryngitis, pharyngitis, acute tracheitis and tracheobronchitis, influenza, chronic obstructive bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, pulmonary emphysema, bronchial asthma, allergic and infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract lungs.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • conditions accompanied by a decrease in mucociliary function (for example, ciliary dyskinesia or Kartagener's syndrome);
  • diseases characterized by bronchial hypersecretion;
  • glucose-galactose malabsorption, fructose intolerance, sucrose-isomaltase deficiency;
  • children under 2 years old;
  • period of pregnancy and lactation;
  • hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Relative (Levopront should be used with caution):

  • diabetes;
  • severe liver dysfunction;
  • severe renal dysfunction [creatinine clearance (CC) <35 ml / min];
  • elderly age;
  • simultaneous use of sedatives.

Levopront, instructions for use: method and dosage

Levopront syrup should be taken orally between meals.

To open the childproof bottle, press the cap firmly and turn it counterclockwise at the same time. For accurate dosing, use the included measuring cup with 3 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml markings on the walls.

Recommended dosage regimen of Levopront:

  • adults and children weighing> 30 kg: 10 ml of syrup 1-3 times a day;
  • children weighing 20-30 kg: 5 ml of syrup 1-3 times a day;
  • children weighing 10–20 kg: 3 ml of syrup 1–3 times a day.

The minimum interval between doses should be 6 hours.

The duration of treatment is determined individually, but it should not exceed 7 days. If symptoms persist or worsen during this period, a doctor should be consulted.

Side effects

The following are the reported side effects of Levopront, but the frequency of their occurrence could not be determined because there is very little data available:

  • from the respiratory system: cough, shortness of breath, swelling of the respiratory tract;
  • from the heart and blood vessels: palpitations, arterial hypotension, tachycardia, atrial bigeminia;
  • from the nervous system and psyche: paresthesias, tremors, vertigo, fainting, lethargy, irritability, gait instability, changes or personality disorders, minor epileptic seizures, tonic-clonic seizures;
  • from the immune system: angioedema, eyelid edema, allergic and anaphylactic reactions;
  • from the digestive tract: pain in the abdomen and stomach, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting;
  • from the connective and musculoskeletal tissue: weakness in the lower extremities;
  • from the liver: cholestatic hepatitis;
  • from the side of metabolism: hypoglycemic coma;
  • sides of the organ of vision: mydriasis, bilateral blindness;
  • from the skin and subcutaneous tissues: skin rashes, urticaria, itching, exanthema, erythema, epidermolysis;
  • others: aphthous stomatitis, glossitis, generalized edema, general malaise, asthenia.

Overdose

In case of an overdose of levodropropizine, abdominal pain and nausea may occur.

It is necessary to do a gastric lavage and take activated charcoal. The following shows the conduct of symptomatic therapy.

special instructions

The syrup is gluten free.

Levopront contains sucrose: in a dose of 10 ml - 4 g. One dose of the drug corresponds to 0.4 XE (bread units). This information should be considered by patients with diabetes mellitus.

The drug contains propyl parahydroxybenzoate and methyl parahydroxybenzoate - these components often cause allergic rashes. Propyl parahydroxybenzoate more often provokes delayed-type allergic reactions (contact dermatitis), less often - immediate-type allergy, accompanied by urticaria and bronchospasm.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

During the period of treatment with Levopront, it is recommended to be careful for drivers and persons whose activities are associated with increased attention and speed of reactions.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Levopront syrup is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Pediatric use

The drug should not be used to treat children under 2 years of age.

With impaired renal function

Levopront should be used with caution in severe renal impairment (CC <35 ml / min).

For violations of liver function

Severe liver dysfunction is a relative contraindication to the use of Levopront, therefore, treatment should be carried out with caution and under the supervision of a physician.

Use in the elderly

Elderly patients should be careful during treatment.

Drug interactions

Levodropropizine does not affect the pharmacological properties of the following drugs: insulin, oral anticoagulants (for example, warfarin), drugs that affect the central nervous system (CNS) (for example, imipramine, phenytoin, benzodiazepines, ethanol). However, in patients with individual hypersensitivity, the combination of Levopront with sedatives can have a depressing effect on the central nervous system.

Clinical studies have not identified any interactions of levodropropizine with drugs that are used to treat diseases of the bronchopulmonary system, such as antibiotics, glucocorticosteroids, beta-2-adrenergic agonists, antihistamines and mucolytics, methylxanthines and their derivatives.

Analogs

The analogues of Levopront are Butamirat, Codelak NEO, Libeksin, Omnitus, Panatus, Panatus forte, Sinekod, Tussikod, Pharmacod, etc.
