Ointment for external use Levomekol
Ointment for external use Levomekol

Levomekol is a combined preparation for external use with antibacterial and regenerating effects.

Release form and composition

Content of active ingredients in 1 g of ointment:

  • Methyluracil - 40 mg;
  • Chloramphenicol - 7.5 mg

Auxiliary components: polyethylene oxide 400, polyethylene oxide 1500.

Pharmacological properties

Levomekol is a combined anti-inflammatory (dehydrating) and antimicrobial drug for topical use. The drug is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (staphylococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli). The ointment easily penetrates into tissues without damaging biological membranes, and has a stimulating effect on regeneration processes. The antibacterial activity of the drug is preserved in the presence of purulent-necrotic masses.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Levomekol is used to treat infected purulent wounds, including those with mixed microflora in the phase of a purulent-necrotic wound process.

Contraindications

The use of Levomekol is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug components.

Instructions for the use of Levomekol: method and dosage

The tool is applied externally, carefully filling all necrotizing areas of purulent wounds. It is advisable to use sterile gauze wipes soaked in ointment. To fill hard-to-reach purulent cavities, the drug can be injected with a syringe through a catheter or drainage tube, preheating the ointment to a temperature of 35-36 ° C. Dressings should be changed once a day during the period necessary to completely stop the purulent-necrotic process.

Side effects

The use of the drug can cause the development of local allergic reactions.

Overdose

Data on cases of overdose of Levomekol ointment have not been reported.

special instructions

With prolonged application of the ointment to large wound areas of the body during pregnancy, the possibility of absorption and toxic effects of the drug should be taken into account.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Levomekol ointment is allowed to be used during pregnancy only as directed by a doctor, if the benefits of therapy for the mother outweigh the potential risks to the fetus.

During lactation, the drug is contraindicated, or breastfeeding should be interrupted during therapy.

Pediatric use

Due to the fact that the biotransformation of chloramphenicol in newborns is slower than in adults, in pediatric practice, Levomekol ointment is not prescribed for the treatment of children under one year old.

Drug interactions

The interaction of the ointment with other drugs has not been established.

The analogues of Levomekol are: Levomethyl, Netran, Levomycetin, Levosin, Lingezin, Protegentina ointment, Streptonitol, Fastin 1, Methyluracil suppositories.

Reviews about Levomekol

One of the few drugs about which there are practically no negative reviews. Levomekol is an effective available external agent that promotes tissue regeneration, indispensable for deep, suppurating wounds, burns, boils, and other skin lesions. It helps to relieve suppuration and inflammation, accelerates healing, while it is odorless, has a good consistency and is affordable. In rare cases, dermatological reactions are described, probably as a result of increased individual sensitivity to the components of the ointment.

The price of Levomekol in pharmacies

The approximate price for Levomekol ointment for 1 tube of 40 g is 100–130 rubles.
