Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Givalex is a combined drug with a pronounced antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and anesthetic effect. Contains hexetidine, choline salicylate and chlorobutanol as active ingredients.
The pharmacological properties of these substances determine the mechanism of action of the drug:
- Hexetidine: antibacterial agent active against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. It has a predominantly bacteriostatic effect on aerobic bacteria and a bactericidal effect on anaerobic bacteria. Its mechanism of action is due to the ability of the hexetidine molecule to competitively replace thiamine, which leads to impaired bacterial growth;
- Chlorobutanol: an antibacterial and antifungal agent used in combination drugs for the treatment of dental and ENT diseases. Has some local anesthetic effect;
- choline salicylate: a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent with antipyretic and analgesic action, which is highly effective when applied topically. By inhibiting cyclooxygenase, choline salicylate reduces the synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
After spraying a spray or rinsing the mouth with a solution, the active components of Givalex are deposited on the mucous membrane and gradually released, due to which they have a long-term therapeutic effect.
Pharmacokinetics
There are no data on the pharmacokinetic parameters of the drug.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Givalex is prescribed as a means of local therapy in patients with infections of the pharynx and oral cavity caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of the drug, including tonsillitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis (acute and chronic), pharyngitis, gingivitis, aphthae, stomatitis.
Also, Givalex can be used as a prophylactic agent in patients who have undergone dental surgery.
Contraindications
The use of Givalex is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to its components.
Spray Givalex is prohibited for children under 12 years old, solution up to 6 years old.
For lactating and pregnant women, the drug is prescribed only after the doctor evaluates the benefit / risk ratio for the health of the mother and the child.
Instructions for the use of Givalex: method and dosage
Givalex is used topically. The duration of the course of treatment, the dose and frequency of application of the drug, the doctor determines individually.
The spray is used to irrigate the pharynx and oral cavity. It is not recommended to take food for at least 10 minutes after the procedure.
As a rule, adults and children from 15 years old are prescribed 1 spray of the drug 4-6 times a day, children 12-15 years old - 2-3 times a day.
Before using Givalex in the form of a solution, it should be diluted. To do this, pour 10 ml of the drug into a measuring cup and add 40 ml of water (temperature - 30-35 ° C). In the absence of a measuring cup, 2 teaspoons of the solution must be diluted in a quarter of a glass of water.
Adults and children from 6 years of age are usually prescribed 2-4 rinses per day at regular intervals. Do not swallow the drug.
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the duration of therapy is usually 5 days.
Avoid getting Givalex in the eyes. With the development of symptoms of a common bacterial infection, the drug can be used simultaneously with oral or parenteral antimicrobial drugs. If during treatment there is an increase in body temperature or symptoms of the disease persist for 5 days, a second diagnosis should be carried out and the therapy regimen should be revised.

As a rule, Givalex is well tolerated by patients. Sometimes during therapy, there may be irritation of the oral mucosa, impaired sense of smell and a change in taste.
