Hexamethylenetetramine is an antiseptic drug belonging to the group of aldehydes.

Hexamethylenetetramine is a disinfectant that is active against many microorganisms that provoke diseases of the urinary tract. Also, the drug has a bacteriostatic, bactericidal property.
The active substance of Hexamethylenetetramine is methenamine.

Indications for use of Hexamethylenetetramine
The use of Hexamethylenetetramine is indicated for diseases of the urinary tract of an infectious nature, inflammation of the gallbladder, bile ducts, and skin allergic diseases.
The drug is also effective for the treatment of eye diseases: keratitis, inflammation of the iris; meningitis, inflammation of the brain and its soft membranes.
Method of application of Hexamethylenetetramine
For intravenous administration, a 40% solution of Hexamethylenetetramine is prescribed in 5-10 ml.
For internal use, adults are prescribed 0.5-1.0 g, children - 0.1-0.5 g. the drug should be taken several p / day.
In order for the drug not to be broken down in the stomach, it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach.
Side effects
After using Hexamethylenetetramine, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, hematuria, albuminuria, crystalluria, itching and rashes on the skin, irritation of the functional elements of the liver are possible.
