Heather is an evergreen highly branching shrub from the Heather family of the same name. It grows in Europe, the Atlantic coast of North America, North Africa, Greenland, in the temperate zone of Asia. With some other plants, heather can form specific thickets called heather wastelands. There is only one species of this kind - common heather. Heather's healing properties
The healing properties of heather have been known for a long time and are widely used by traditional medicine, for this, both flowers and leaves of a plant are used. The collection of raw materials is carried out during the flowering period, the upper part of the shoots is removed along with the flowers, then the material is dried in the shade, spreading it out on the fabric in one layer. The collected raw materials can be used within 1 year. The healing properties of the heather plant are due to the presence of a large amount of tannins, flavonoids, essential oils, polysaccharides, carotene, calcium, sodium and phosphorus in it. The preparations based on this shrub have a relaxing and soothing effect, tea with the addition of heather has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects. Common heather tincture is used in the creation of some homeopathic medicines.
The use of heather in medicine
The heather plant in folk medicine is used for diseases of the nervous system, for inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, for rheumatism, colds.
Heather infusion is used to treat neurological diseases. It is prepared as follows: 1 tablespoon of dried heather is poured with boiling water and insisted for 2-3 hours. After that, the infusion should be filtered, use it inside for ½ cup 3-4 times a day.
Heather infusion is also used in the treatment of gallbladder diseases (chronic cholecystitis), and urolithiasis (if the sand / kidney stones are composed of oxalates or urates). Only in these cases, it is taken 1 glass 4 times a day. At the same dosage, heather is used in the treatment of obesity.
For the treatment of cystitis and pyelonephritis, the infusion of this plant is used as an anti-inflammatory and diuretic agent. Heather can also be used medicinally for diseases of the prostate gland.
Infusion of heather can be used to treat gastritis, colitis (with diarrhea syndrome). In these cases, the infusion should be taken before meals 4 times a day. However, treatment with heather is contraindicated in people with low stomach acidity.
For the treatment of colds, tonsillitis and tonsillitis, gargling with heather infusion is indicated as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. In addition to infusion, heather honey helps well for inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, which is a good antiseptic, helps to remove toxins and has a diuretic effect. Honey can also be used for bronchial asthma.
For gout, an infusion of heather can be used as a lotion and poultice on the affected joints. At the same time, the infusion should be taken orally 1 / 2 cup 4 times a day. For injuries or diseases of joints of other origin, heather is used to prepare local baths. To do this, 3 tablespoons of a dry plant are insisted in 1 liter of boiling water in a dry, warm place.
