Valusal is a drug for external use with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects; inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis.

Release form and composition

Valusal dosage form - gel for external use 2.5%: colorless or yellowish, from slightly cloudy to transparent, with a characteristic odor (30 or 50 g each in aluminum tubes with a varnished inner surface, a protective aluminum membrane at the neck and a cone-shaped device for puncture the membrane in a screw-on plastic bushon, in a carton pack (1 tube).

Composition of 1 g of gel:

  • active substance: ketoprofen - 0.025 g;
  • auxiliary components: carbomer, diethanolamine, orange oil, lavender oil, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethanol 96%, purified water.

Indications for use

  • diseases of the musculoskeletal system: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, joint pain during exacerbation of gout, ankylosing spondylitis, osteochondrosis with radicular syndrome, osteoarthritis, radiculitis, inflammation of ligaments and tendons, bursitis, lumbago, sciatica;
  • muscle pain of rheumatic and non-rheumatic genesis;
  • injuries of the musculoskeletal system (including sports), post-traumatic edema and inflammation of the soft tissues.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • eczema, weeping dermatoses, infected wounds and abrasions at the site of the intended application of the gel;
  • children and adolescents up to 15 years old;
  • III trimester of pregnancy, period of breastfeeding (lactation);
  • hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including with a history of urticaria, rhinitis, bronchospasm caused by the intake of acetylsalicylic acid.

Relative: Valusal should be used with caution in case of erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, severe renal / liver dysfunction, hepatic porphyria, chronic heart failure, bronchial asthma, pregnancy in I – II trimesters.

Method of administration and dosage

Valusal gel is applied externally, in a thin layer on the skin over the affected area, rubbing lightly.

Recommended dosage regimen for adults and adolescents over 15 years of age: 1-2 times a day at a dose of not more than 7.5 g per application (corresponds to the length of a gel strip of 14 cm). The maximum daily dose is 15 g. The required amount of gel depends on the size of the painful area.

Before applying the drug, you should check the condition of the skin for the absence of visible external lesions. It is impossible to cover the place of application of the gel over the affected area with a bandage.

Apply the gel in short courses. The duration of therapy is individual and ranges from 1 to 10 days, depending on the nature of the disease, the severity and response to therapy with Valusal.

You cannot exceed the recommended dose without a doctor's prescription.

If the next dose is missed, it should be used immediately, if there is enough time before the next application. When a dose is missed, but the time for the next application of the drug is approaching, the forgotten dose must be ignored and therapy should be continued according to the appointment. It is prohibited to use a double dose in one application.

Side effects

  • systemic reactions: edema, photosensitivity, urticaria, generalized skin rash, stomatitis;
  • local reactions: flushing of the skin, eczema, allergic dermatitis, photodermatitis, bullous dermatitis, skin exanthema, purpura.

In case of other side effects, the use of the drug is discontinued and a specialist is consulted.

special instructions

Valusal gel is intended exclusively for external use. It is important to avoid contact with open wounds, inflamed skin and mucous membranes of the eyes. It is forbidden to cover the places of application of the gel with occlusive (sealed) dressings.

Taking into account the possible photosensitization reactions, during the period of therapy and for two weeks after the last application of ketoprofen, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and artificial ultraviolet radiation (for example, in a solarium) on the skin exposed to the drug.

The use of Valusal has no effect on concentration of attention and the speed of psychomotor reactions.

Drug interactions

The external bioavailability of ketoprofen is negligible, therefore, its interaction with other drugs / preparations is unlikely.
