Release form and composition
Valoserdin is released in the form of drops for oral administration - a colorless transparent liquid with a specific aromatic odor. 15 ml, 25 ml and 50 ml in dropper bottles made of orange glass or in brown glass bottles with a screw neck, sealed with polymer dropper stoppers and screw-on polymer caps or caps with a dropper, 1 bottle in a cardboard box.
The composition of 100 g drops contains active substances:
- Phenobarbital - 2 g;
- Ethyl bromisovalerianate (ethyl ester of α-bromisovaleric acid) - 2 g.
Auxiliary components: peppermint oil - 0.14 g; Spanish hop oil (oregano oil) - 0.02 g; 95% ethanol (ethyl alcohol) - 52.8 g; purified water - 43.04 g.
Pharmacological properties
Phenobarbital is characterized by a sedative and mild hypnotic effect. It reduces the excitation of the central nervous system (central nervous system) and accelerates the onset of natural sleep, enhancing the sedative effect of other components. Ethyl bromisovalerianate also has a sedative (similar to the action of valerian) and antispasmodic action.

Indications for use
According to the instructions, Valoserdin is used as a sedative and vasodilator for the following conditions and diseases:
- Disorders of the cardiovascular system;
- Falling asleep disorders;
- Neurosis-like states with increased irritability;
- A state of arousal with pronounced vegetative manifestations;
- Tachycardia;
- Intestinal cramps (as an antispasmodic).
Contraindications
Valoserdin drops are contraindicated in the following cases:
- Severe liver and / or kidney dysfunction;
- Porphyria;
- Hypersensitivity to drug components.
The drug is not prescribed for lactating and pregnant women, as well as children under 18 years of age.
Due to the absolute ethyl alcohol that is part of Valoserdin (more than 3 g in a daily dose), the drug is contraindicated in patients with craniocerebral trauma, alcoholism, liver and brain diseases.
Instructions for the use of Valoserdin: method and dosage
Valoserdin drops are taken orally, before meals.
A single dosage - 15-20 drops, must first be dissolved in a small amount of water (30-50 ml). The frequency of taking the drug is 3 times a day. With tachycardia, a single dose can be increased to 40-50 drops.
The duration of therapy is set individually by the attending physician.
Side effects
As a rule, Valoserdin is well tolerated even with prolonged use. In rare cases, drowsiness and dizziness may develop during the daytime.
Long-term use of large doses can cause chronic bromine poisoning. This manifests itself as:
- Apathy;
- Hemorrhagic diathesis;
- Depressed mood;
- Rhinitis;
- Impaired coordination of movements;
- Conjunctivitis.

Overdose symptoms are:
- Mild and moderate intoxication - dizziness, drowsiness, psychomotor disorders;

Overdose
An overdose of Valoserdin of mild and moderate severity is accompanied by symptoms such as psychomotor disorders, dizziness, drowsiness. When very high doses of the drug are taken, there is a decrease in peripheral reflexes, tachycardia, a decrease in blood pressure, vascular collapse, respiratory failure, and coma.
As an emergency measure, gastric lavage and subsequent intake of activated charcoal are recommended. Immediately after this, you must consult a specialist.

Long-term therapy can lead to the formation of drug dependence, as well as to the accumulation of bromine in the body, followed by poisoning with it.
Valoserdin contains at least 52% vol. ethanol (in the maximum daily dose - 3.09 g of absolute ethyl alcohol).
During treatment, the performance of potentially hazardous activities that require patients to have an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions is not recommended.
Drug interactions
With the simultaneous use of Valoserdin with sedative drugs, the effect is enhanced, and alcohol, in addition to enhancing the effects of the drug, can also increase its toxicity.
Phenobarbital, which is part of Valoserdin, can induce liver enzymes. In this regard, it is undesirable to take it simultaneously with drugs that are metabolized in the liver - indirect anticoagulants, antibiotics, sulfonamides. Also, phenobarbital can weaken the effect of coumarin derivatives, griseofulvin, glucocorticosteroids, contraceptives for oral administration.
The simultaneous reception of Valoserdin with tranquilizers and neuroleptics can enhance, and with stimulants of the central nervous system - weaken the effect of each of the components of the drug.
