How much Citramon is needed for an overdose?

A single dose of Citramon for an adult, unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, is 0.5–1 g, which corresponds to 1–2 tablets, the maximum daily dose is 4 tablets. With a single intake of 7-8 tablets, an overdose may occur. Cases of death from an overdose of Citramon were not recorded.

An overdose of Citramon can be observed when taking therapeutic doses - in patients with kidney or liver disease. In this case, the metabolic process of Citramon is disrupted and its excretion is difficult, the drug accumulates in the body, causing a clinical picture of an overdose.

Since the medicine contains caffeine, the tablets should not be taken with caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea, energy drinks, etc.). Otherwise, an overdose of caffeine may occur, even when taking a therapeutic dose of Citramon.

Signs of overdose

There are several active ingredients in Citramon, the symptoms of an overdose are due to the action of each of them. An excess of caffeine is manifested by the following symptoms:

  • insomnia;
  • noise in ears;
  • nervousness, irritability;
  • increased blood pressure (BP);
  • tachycardia;
  • digestive disorders;
  • decrease in the amount of urine discharge.

Signs of exposure to the body of excessively high doses of acetylsalicylic acid and paracetamol:

  • nausea and vomiting;
  • pulling pains in the upper abdomen (epigastric region);
  • increased bleeding.

In severe cases, an overdose of Citramone leads to convulsions, external and internal bleeding, respiratory and consciousness disorders.

First aid for overdose of Citramon

  1. Gastric lavage. The victim is given 0.5-1 liters of cool water to drink, after which they induce vomiting by irritating the root of the tongue. Attention! Children of the first years of life cannot wash their stomach in this way, only with the help of a gastric tube in a hospital setting.
  2. Reception of enterosorbent. It is necessary to take any drug with a sorbing effect, for example, Activated Carbon or Polysorb. The drugs of this group bind toxins in the gastrointestinal tract and remove them from the body in a natural way.
  3. Drink plenty of fluids. A significant volume of fluid reduces the concentration of Citramon in the blood and promotes its early excretion from the body in the urine. However, the victim should not drink large volumes of fluids at once, as this will increase nausea, abdominal pain and may cause vomiting. You need to drink often, in small portions.

Antidote

There are no specific antidotes to Citramon.

When is medical attention needed?

In most cases, after first aid, the patient's condition improves quickly - this is a sign that medical attention is not required. Seeing a doctor is necessary if:

  • overdose symptoms are pronounced;
  • first aid did not bring relief;
  • an overdose happened in a child.

In case of severe overdose, treatment is carried out in the conditions of the toxicology department. Since there is no antidote to Citramon, symptomatic therapy is carried out, aimed at correcting the patient's existing disorders and maintaining the functions of vital organs.

Possible consequences

Overdose of Citramon in most cases is easy and does not lead to any long-term consequences. However, taking high doses of Citramon can be potentially dangerous for people with hypertension. In this group of patients, caffeine can cause a sharp increase in blood pressure, provoking a hypertensive crisis, hemorrhagic stroke, and retinal detachment.
