Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Nifuroxazide is an antimicrobial drug derived from nitrofuran. Presumably blocks the activity of dehydrogenases and inhibits the respiratory chain, the tricarboxylic acid cycle and other biochemical processes in the microbial cell. It helps to reduce the production of toxins by microorganisms, destroys the membrane of a microbial cell. Does not affect the balance of intestinal microflora.

Shows high activity against Yersinia spp., Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni, Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium perfringens, pathogenic Vibrio and Vibrions parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus spp.

Low sensitivity to nifuroxazide is demonstrated by Proteus indologenes, Enterobacter cloacae, and Citrobacter spp.

Resistant to the antimicrobial action of nifuroxazide: Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp., Pseudomonas spp., Providencia spp.

In acute bacterial diarrhea, nifuroxazide therapy helps to restore intestinal eubiosis. In the case of infection with enterotropic viruses, taking Adisord allows you to avoid the development of bacterial superinfection.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, nifuroxazide is practically not absorbed from the digestive tract (99% of the dose taken remains in the intestine), and therefore it has its antibacterial effect exclusively in the intestinal lumen.

Excretion of the substance is carried out by the intestines: 20% - unchanged, the rest - in the form of chemically altered nifuroxazide.

Indications for use

Adisord is intended for the treatment of acute diarrhea of bacterial genesis in the absence of helminthic invasion, as well as proceeding without intoxication, increased body temperature and deterioration of the general condition.

special instructions

Before starting therapy with Adisord, it is recommended to seek the advice of a specialist.

Treatment of diarrhea with nifuroxazide requires rehydration therapy. The volume of the injected fluid and the method of its administration (orally or parenterally) should correspond to the patient's age, clinical condition, and the severity of diarrhea. In children under 3 years of age, diarrhea is treated under medical supervision.

In case of bacterial diarrhea with signs of systemic damage (the presence of symptoms of infection or intoxication, an increase in body temperature, a deterioration in the general condition), it is necessary to consult a doctor to decide on the appointment of antimicrobial drugs of systemic action.

Drinking alcohol while taking nifuroxazide is prohibited.

If, against the background of treatment with the drug, symptoms of an allergic reaction appear (including rash, itching, shortness of breath), its use should be stopped immediately.

Due to the content of methyl parahydroxybenzoate in the suspension of Adisord, allergic reactions (possibly delayed) may develop during its use.

5 ml of suspension contains 1000 mg of sucrose (0.0833 XE). According to this, in 2.5 ml of suspension (single dose), the sucrose content is 0.04165 XE (bread units).

The daily dose of sucrose when taking 2.5 ml of the suspension 2 times a day is 0.0833 XE and 0.125 XE when taking the same dose 3 times a day.

The daily dose of sucrose when taking 5 ml of suspension 3 times a day is equal to 0.25 XE and 0.333 XE when taking the same dose 4 times a day.

The content of 96% ethanol in the Adisord suspension is 1%. The minimum single dose of the drug (2.5 ml of suspension, which corresponds to the intake of 100 mg of nifuroxazide) contains 0.02 g of ethanol (in terms of absolute alcohol), in the maximum daily dose (5 ml of suspension 4 times a day, which corresponds to the intake 800 mg of nifuroxazide) - 0.16 g of ethanol (in terms of absolute alcohol).

Reviews about Adisord

On the Internet, reviews about Adisord are mostly positive. The drug is characterized as effective, fast-acting, capable of relieving pain and not disturbing the beneficial microflora of the digestive tract. In addition, users find the cost of the drug, OTC dispensing, and a small list of adverse reactions to be attractive. An additional advantage of Adisord in the form of a suspension is the possibility of its use for the treatment of children aged 1 month and older. Parents note that children love the sweet banana flavor of the slurry and its bright yellow color.

The only drawback, according to some patients, is the frequent lack of Adisord on sale. Users also warn that a bright yellow suspension can leave stubborn stains, and therefore, care must be taken when taking and storing it.
