Ferro-Folgamma capsules

Ferro-Folgamma is a complex hemostimulating preparation containing vitamins and microelements. It is used to treat iron deficiency anemias.

Release form and composition

Composition of one capsule:

  • active substances: ferrous sulfate - 112.6 mg (equivalent to 37 mg Fe 2+), folic acid (vitamin B 9) - 5 mg, cyanocobalamin (vitamin B 12) - 0.01 mg, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) - 100 mg;
  • auxiliary components (capsule contents): hard fat, rapeseed oil, gelatin, soy lecithin (E322);
  • shell: sorbitol solution 70%, glycerol, ethyl vanillin, red iron oxide dye (E172), black iron oxide dye (E172).

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Ferro-Folgamma includes a combination of active ingredients that cause the antianemic effect of the drug in the treatment of iron deficiency conditions: ferrous iron (in the form of an iron sulfate salt), folic acid, vitamin B 12 and ascorbic acid.

Iron is part of such important blood elements as hemoglobin, myoglobin, as well as a number of enzymes. Folic acid and cyanocobalamin are involved in the formation of red blood cells (erythropoiesis). Ascorbic acid helps to improve the absorption of iron in the intestine.

Due to the special neutral capsule shell, the absorption of the active substances of the drug occurs mainly in the small intestine. Due to the fact that the gastric mucosa is not exposed to local irritant action, the drug is well tolerated by the gastrointestinal tract.

Pharmacokinetics

Information on the pharmacokinetics of the drug is not provided.

Indications for use

  • anemias caused by a combined deficiency of iron, folic acid and vitamin B 12, resulting from chronic blood loss (intestinal, stomach bleeding, metrorrhagia, menometrorrhagia, bleeding from hemorrhoids, bladder), as well as against the background of infectious diseases, chronic alcoholism, oral contraceptives or anticonvulsants;
  • anemia during pregnancy and lactation;
  • prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and after childbirth during breastfeeding.

Contraindications

  • excessive iron content in tissues and organs (hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis);
  • not associated with iron deficiency anemias (including isolated megaloblastic anemia caused by a lack of vitamin B 12, as well as hemolytic anemias);
  • violation of the processes of iron utilization (including sideroachrestic anemia and anemia caused by lead poisoning);
  • liver dysfunction;
  • individual hypersensitivity to any components of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Ferro-Folgamma: method and dosage

Ferro-Folgamma is taken orally after a meal.

Recommended dosage:

  • anemia: mild course - 1 capsule 3 times a day, course of treatment - 3-4 weeks; moderate form - 1 capsule 3 times a day, course of treatment - 8-12 weeks; severe form - 2 capsules 3 times a day, course of treatment - 16 weeks or more;
  • prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency during pregnancy and lactation: 1 capsule 3 times a day in the second and third trimesters and after childbirth during breastfeeding.

For violations of liver function

The drug should not be used for violations of liver function.

Drug interactions

  • preparations containing pancreatic enzymes: decrease in iron absorption;

  • antibiotics of the tetracycline group: violation of their absorption from the gastrointestinal tract;
  • phenobarbital, sodium valproate, carbamazepine, sulfasalazine, hormonal contraceptives, triamterene, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, folic acid antagonists: decreased absorption of folic acid;
  • solid food, raw cereals, bread, eggs, dairy products (during therapy with tetracycline antibiotics and penicillamine): reduced absorption of iron due to the formation of complex compounds that reduce the absorption of iron and inhibit the antimicrobial activity of antibiotics.
