Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
As active substances Ferretab comp. contains iron fumarate and folic acid, which determine its pharmacological action.
Ferrous fumarate is a salt of iron, a trace element that is essential for the synthesis of hemoglobin. The use of iron in the form of salts contributes to the rapid replenishment of its deficiency in the body, as a result of which there is a gradual regression of laboratory signs and clinical symptoms of anemia, such as weakness, fatigue, dry and sore skin, tachycardia.
Folic acid is a vitamin necessary for the normal formation of normoblasts and the maturation of megaloblasts. Participates in the metabolism of choline, the synthesis of amino acids, purines, pyrimidines and nucleic acids. Stimulates erythropoiesis. During pregnancy, protects the body from teratogenic factors.
Thus, Ferretab comp. maintains and helps restore normal blood iron levels. Prevents the development of anemia, spontaneous abortion, early childbirth, impaired mental development of the child - complications that can lead to a lack of iron and folic acid in the body. The amount of assimilated iron is 5–35%.
In the blood serum, iron binds to transferrin. Participates in the formation of myoglobin, hemoglobin, peroxidase, cytochrome c-oxidase and catalase, or is stored in body tissues in the form of ferritin.
Pharmacokinetics
Iron is excreted from the body in urine, feces and sweat.
Folic acid is absorbed primarily in the upper intestinal tract (duodenum). 64% bound to proteins. Metabolized in the liver. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys, partly with feces.
Indications for use
Ferretab comp. used for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency conditions during pregnancy, impaired absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, inadequate and / or unbalanced nutrition, prolonged bleeding.
Contraindications
- impaired absorption of iron (pernicious anemia, lead anemia, sideroachrestic anemia);
- diseases accompanied by the accumulation of iron in the body (hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, thalassemia, hemolytic and aplastic anemia);
- anemia caused by factors other than iron or folic acid deficiency;
- hypersensitivity to any component of Ferretab capsules comp.
Ferretab comp., Instructions for use: method and dosage
Ferretab capsules comp. should be taken orally, on an empty stomach, 1 pc. per day, swallowing whole and drinking plenty of water.
With a pronounced deficiency of iron / folic acid, the dose is increased to 2-3 capsules per day.
Maintenance therapy is continued for at least 4 weeks after reaching the normal hemoglobin level necessary for normalization of serum ferritin, which reflects the body's iron stores.
Side effects
Ferretab comp. generally well tolerated. In rare cases, the temporary development of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, such as discomfort in the stomach, a feeling of fullness, constipation, nausea, vomiting, is possible.
In case of intolerance to any component of the capsules, there is a possibility of developing allergic reactions.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, the severity of side effects increases.
If an overdose is suspected, serum iron and serum ferritin levels are tested. If ferritin levels are significantly higher than normal, an iron chelator (desferal) is prescribed.
special instructions
Before using Ferretab Comp. it is necessary to make sure of the presence of iron deficiency (conduct a study of the level of serum iron and serum ferritin).
Treatment with the drug is carried out until the normalization of the blood picture, usually it takes 8-12 weeks.
Due to the iron content, the drug can turn the feces into a dark color. This reaction is normal and does not require discontinuation of therapy.
During the period of taking Ferretab comp. it is possible to obtain a false positive benzidine test.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Ferretab comp. can be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women according to indications.
Drug interactions
