Eleflox is a drug of the fluoroquinolone group, an antimicrobial agent.

Pharmacological action of Eleflox

The main active component of Eleflox's composition is levofloxacin, which helps to block bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, inhibiting DNA synthesis and causing morphological changes in their cytoplasm, membranes and cell wall. Thanks to this, a bactericidal and antimicrobial effect on the patient's body is carried out.

Release form

Eleflox is available in two forms:

  • tablets weighing 250 and 500 mg. The tablets are biconvex, have a yellowish-pink color, oval in shape, film-coated. On one side there is engraving "250" or "500" depending on the mass of the active substance. Tablets are packed in blisters of 5 pieces. One pack contains 1 or 2 blisters;
  • clear solution for infusion, has a greenish-yellow color. The bottle contains 100 ml of the medicine.

Indications for the use of Eleflox

The instruction for Eleflox prescribes the use of the drug for infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of the drug. These include:

  • exacerbation of chronic bronchitis;
  • diseases of the ENT organs;
  • acute sinusitis;
  • community-acquired pneumonia;
  • complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (including pyelonephritis);
  • infections of soft tissues and skin (abscess, suppurating atheroma, furunculosis);
  • bacterial prostatitis;
  • bacteremia, septicemia;
  • intra-abdominal infection;
  • drug-resistant form of tuberculosis (as an element of complex therapy).

Contraindications for Eleflox

Medical reviews about Eleflox revealed a number of contraindications. The medicine is not recommended for use if the patient falls into one of the following categories:

  • epilepsy;
  • hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other types of quinolones;
  • Tendon damage caused by previous quinolone therapy
  • age up to 18 years;
  • the period of pregnancy and lactation.

The drug is allowed for use by the elderly, patients with a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, as well as patients with impaired renal function only in cases where they can be guaranteed medical supervision.

  • with infectious lesions of the urinary tract, the dosage for intravenous and oral administration is the same: once, 250 mg per day;
  • for infections of soft tissues and skin, Eleflox is taken orally once or twice a day in an amount of 250-500 mg.

Side effects

The drug is capable of causing a number of side effects, but the likelihood of their occurrence, judging by the reviews about Eleflox, is small. Potential side reactions include the following:

  • vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, dysbiosis, pseudomembranous enterocolitis, hyperbilirubinemia;
  • tachycardia, vascular collapse, decreased blood pressure;
  • dizziness, weakness, headache, insomnia, paresthesia, fear, anxiety, confusion, depression, convulsions;
  • violations of smell, hearing, vision, tactile and gustatory sensitivity;

Overdose
