Exoderil solution
Exoderil solution

Exoderil is a topical antifungal drug. The active ingredient is naftifine, a synthetic antimycotic substance of the allylamine group. Exoderil has a fungicidal, fungistatic, bactericidal effect. The mechanism of action is to inhibit the biosynthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell by acting on squalene epoxidase. The drug does not affect the cytochrome P450 system. Exoderil causes a lack of ergosterol and the accumulation of squalene in the fungal cell, resulting in the death of the microorganism. Exoderil is active against dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, Microsporum), fungi of the genus Candida, Sporotrix schenckii, and molds. In addition, the drug acts against some gram-positive, gram-negative microorganisms, Malassezia furfur. When applied topically, Exoderil penetrates well into all layers of the skin, while creating a therapeutic concentration.

About 6% of the active substance enters the systemic circulation. The drug is partially metabolized, excreted in bile and urine. The half-life is 2-3 days.

Method of application, dosage

In case of onychomycosis, the possible amount of affected nail tissue should be removed before applying the drug. Exoderil is used once or twice a day. The cream and solution are applied in a thin layer to the affected area and rubbed lightly. The duration of therapy depends on the form of the disease, as well as the individual characteristics of patients (in particular, on the rate of nail growth), sometimes it reaches 6 months or more. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.

With dermatomycosis, the average duration of therapy with Exoderil is 2-4 weeks, in severe forms - up to 8 weeks.
