Proctosedil M is a drug for the treatment of hemorrhoids with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and local anesthetic action.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of rectal capsules, which are soft pear-shaped gelatin capsules of light yellow color, inside which there is a yellowish-white fatty mass (20 pieces each in dark glass vials with a screw cap, in a cardboard box 1 bottle and instructions for use of Proktosedil M).
Composition for 1 rectal capsule:
- active ingredients: butylaminobenzoate (butamben) - 5 mg; framycetin sulfate - 5 mg; ethylaminobenzoate (benzocaine) - 5 mg; hydrocortisone acetate - 2.79 mg; esculoside - 5 mg;
- auxiliary components of the capsule contents: soft white paraffin, lanolin, liquid paraffin;
- capsule shell: methylparaben, propylparaben, glycerol, titanium dioxide, gelatin, purified water.

Pharmacodynamics
Proctosedil M is a combined agent for the treatment of hemorrhoids. Its active ingredients have the following properties:
- hydrocortisone: refers to glucocorticosteroids, has an anti-inflammatory effect (it eliminates various symptoms and signs of the inflammatory process - swelling, redness and pain);
- framycetin: a local antibiotic with a broad spectrum of bactericidal action; active against a number of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria;
- benzocaine and butamben: have antipruritic and local analgesic activity, reduce or eliminate spasm of the anal sphincter;
- esculoside: chemical structure similar to vitamin P, reduces the increased fragility of small blood vessels (capillaries).
The therapeutic effect of Proctosedil M appears within a few minutes after the capsule is inserted.
Pharmacokinetics
Partial absorption of hydrocortisone occurs in the rectum. Its half-life is about 90 minutes.
Indications for use
- anal fissures in the acute stage;
- proctitis;
- external and internal acute hemorrhoids;
- cracks in the rectal mucosa;
- itching in the anal area;
- postpartum hemorrhoids;
- perianal eczema.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- lesions of the anorectal zone of viral, tuberculous and fungal origin;
- infancy;
- period of pregnancy;

Proctosedil M, instructions for use: method and dosage
Proctosedil M is intended for rectal administration. The capsule should be inserted into the rectum as deep as possible.
At the beginning of treatment, 1 capsule of the drug is prescribed in the morning and in the evening, as well as during the day after each act of defecation. After improvement of the condition, the dose is reduced to 1 rectal capsule per day. Duration of use - no more than 7 days.
Rectal capsules can be used simultaneously with Proctosedil in the form of an ointment.
Side effects
After the introduction of the capsule, a burning sensation and discomfort in the rectum may appear, as well as a feeling of dryness of the rectal mucosa. In some cases, allergic reactions may occur, and sometimes a secondary infection is added.
When using Proctosedil M for a long time and / or in high doses, there is a risk of systemic adverse reactions associated with hydrocortisone (glucocorticosteroid).
