Persen Forte is a herbal sedative with a calming and antispasmodic effect.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of capsules: size No. 2, the cap and body are reddish-brown, the capsules contain granules or a compressed mass from greenish-brown to brown interspersed (10 pcs. In blisters of aluminum and polyvinyl chloride / thermoplastic / polyvinylidene chloride foil, in cardboard packaging 1, 2 or 4 blisters and instructions for use of Persen Forte).
Composition for 1 capsule:
- active ingredients (in the form of a dry extract): peppermint leaves - 25 mg, lemon balm leaves - 25 mg, valerian rhizomes with roots - 125 mg;
- additional components: lactose monohydrate - 85.5 mg; magnesium hydrosilicate - 8.1 mg; magnesium stearate - 2.2 mg; magnesium oxide - 6 mg; anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide - 3.2 mg;
- capsule shell: gelatin, titanium dioxide (E171), quinoline yellow (E104), yellow sunset (E110), red iron oxide (E172), azorubin (E122), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E128).
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The action of the drug is based on the properties of the active components that make up its composition:
- peppermint leaves: contain flavonoids, menthol essential oil, phenolic and triterpenic acids; act as an antispasmodic on the smooth muscles of the digestive system, have a carminative (carminative) and choleretic effect;
- lemon balm (lemon mint) leaves: contain essential oils, monoterpene aldehydes (such as neroli, geranium and cedrate oils), monoterpenes, glucosides, triterpenic acids, tannins (rosemary acid), flavonoids and bitter substances; produce a calming effect, have antispasmodic properties;
- valerian rhizomes with roots: contain an essential oil with monoterpenes, sexviterpenes and less volatile valeric acids, glutamine and arginine, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid); have a sedative and antispasmodic effect.
Indications for use
As a sedative, Persen Forte is used in the following cases:
- sleep disturbances, insomnia;
- increased nervous irritability;
- irritability;
- feeling of inner tension.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- arterial hypotension;
- diseases of the biliary tract (cholangitis, cholelithiasis, etc.);
- glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance;
- deficiency of sucrase / isomaltase, fructose intolerance;
- pregnancy;
- lactation (breastfeeding);
- age under 12;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Persen Forte capsules should be taken with caution in patients with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
Persen Forte, instructions for use: method and dosage
Persen Forte capsules are taken orally with a little water. Food intake does not affect the effectiveness of the drug.
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age are prescribed 1-2 capsules 2-3 times a day, for insomnia - 1-2 capsules an hour before bedtime.
The course of treatment is from 2 to 4 weeks, if necessary, it can be extended (you should first consult a doctor). It is not recommended to take Persen Forte continuously for more than one and a half to two months. Withdrawal syndrome does not occur if the drug is discontinued.
Side effects
When taking the drug, allergic reactions (in the form of hyperemia, peripheral edema, skin rash, allergic dermatitis), bronchospasm, and increased fatigue may occur.
With prolonged use, the patient may develop constipation.
Overdose
A single intake of a large dose of the drug can cause dilated pupils, hand tremors, the development of dizziness, stomach cramps, fatigue, chest tightness, etc. During the day, these manifestations can disappear on their own. Nevertheless, in case of symptoms of an overdose, it is advisable to wash the stomach and consult a doctor for advice on further therapy.

It is possible that symptoms worsen in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Patients taking Persen Forte should be careful when driving and working with moving mechanisms, as well as when performing any potentially hazardous activities that require quick psychomotor reactions and high concentration of attention.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Persen Forte is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Pediatric use
The drug is not prescribed for children under 12 years of age.

Persen Forte, when taken simultaneously with other drugs that depress the central nervous system (analgesics, hypnotics, centrally acting antihypertensive drugs), enhances their effect, which may require dose adjustment.
