Tantum Rose is a local preparation with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic action, used in gynecological practice.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms of release:

• vaginal solution: has a characteristic smell of roses, transparent, colorless (in polyethylene bottles of 140 ml, 5 bottles in a cardboard box, complete with a guide nozzle and a cannula);
• powder for the preparation of vaginal solution: white homogeneous granules, foreign particles and lumps are absent (9.44 g each in a sachet of polypropylene and paper, 10 sachets in a cardboard box).

Each pack also contains instructions for the use of Tantum Rose.

Composition of 1 ml of vaginal solution:

• active substance: benzydamine hydrochloride - 1 mg;
• additional components: rose oil, polysorbate 20, trimethyl acetylammonium-para-toluenesulfonate, 96% ethanol, purified water.

Composition of 1 powder sachet:

• active substance: benzydamine hydrochloride - 500 mg;
• additional components: povidone, trimethyl acetylammonium-para-toluenesulfonate, sodium chloride.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Tantum Rose is a local non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, belongs to the group of indazoles. It has a local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect, has antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal properties.

The mechanism of action of benzydamine is based on the stabilization of cell membranes and inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.

The substance has an antibacterial effect due to the rapid penetration of microorganisms through the membranes, further damage to cellular structures, disruption of metabolic processes and cell lysis.

It has antifungal effect against Candida albicans. It leads to structural modifications of the cell wall of fungi and metabolic chains of mycetes, which prevents their reproduction.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, benzydamine is well absorbed through the mucous membranes and penetrates into inflamed tissues.

Excretion is carried out mainly by the kidneys and through the intestines in the form of conjugation products or metabolites.

Indications for use

• specific vulvovaginitis (along with other drugs);
• bacterial vaginosis;
• nonspecific cervicovaginitis and vulvovaginitis of any genesis, including those secondary to the background of radio- and chemotherapy;
• postpartum period (as a hygiene product);
• complications in operative gynecology (prophylaxis in the pre- and postoperative periods).

Contraindications

• age up to 12 years;
• hypersensitivity to drug components.

Tantum Rose, instructions for use: method and dosage

The drug is used intravaginally.

Method for preparing a solution from Tantum Rose powder: the contents of 1 sachet should be dissolved in 500 ml water.

For douching, a solution of 140 ml is used, previously slightly warmed up in a water bath. The procedure should be performed while lying down, the solution should remain in the vagina for several minutes.

Recommended application scheme:

• bacterial vaginosis (vaginal irrigation): 1-2 times a day for 7-10 days;
• nonspecific vulvovaginitis and cervicovaginitis of any genesis, specific vulvovaginitis (along with other drugs): 2 times a day for 10 days;
• postpartum period (as a hygienic agent) and complications in operative gynecology (prevention in the pre- and postoperative periods): once a day for a course of 3-5 days.
