Stomatidin is a local antiseptic drug used in dentistry and otorhinolaryngology.

Release form and composition

Stomatidin is produced in the form of a solution for topical use: transparent, red (in dark glass bottles of 200 ml, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

Composition of 10 ml solution:

  • active substance: hexetidine - 10 mg;
  • auxiliary components: methyl salicylate - 1 mg; polysorbate 20 - 100 mg; propylene glycol - 1000 mg; sodium saccharinate - 3 mg; citric acid monohydrate - 4 mg; racementol - 1.5 mg; 96% ethanol - 1 ml; dye azorubin - 1 mg; water - up to 10 ml.

Antiseptic agent for topical use in dentistry and otorhinolaryngology.

Hexetidine inhibits the oxidative reactions of the metabolism of microbial cells and provides an antimicrobial effect (thiamine antagonist). This substance is distinguished by its antibacterial effect against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and antifungal effect (among other things, against fungi of the genus Candida). Inhibition of the growth of strains of susceptible bacteria is provided at a concentration of 100 mg / ml hexetidine. The development of sustainability was not recorded. Hexetidine has a weak analgesic effect on the mucous membrane.

Pharmacokinetics

Hexetidine has good adhesion to the mucous membrane, practically not being absorbed by it. As a result of a single application, the substance is found on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity for 65 hours. Active concentrations in dental plaque persist for 10-14 hours after drug administration.

Indications for use

  • diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx of an infectious and inflammatory etiology: tonsillitis (including angina with lesions of the lateral ridges, Plaut-Vincent sore throat), bleeding gums, pharyngitis, periodontal disease, gingivitis, glossitis, stomatitis, aphthous ulcers (for the prevention of superinfection);
  • fungal infections of the oral cavity and pharynx (especially candidal stomatitis);
  • infection of the alveoli after tooth extraction (for prophylactic purposes);
  • additional oral hygiene in case of common diseases;
  • operations in the oral cavity and pharynx (pre- and postoperative period);
  • bad breath, especially in cases of collapsing tumors of the oral cavity and pharynx (for the purpose of elimination).

Contraindications

  • atrophic pharyngitis;
  • age up to 5 years;
  • I trimester of pregnancy;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

In the II-III trimesters of pregnancy, the appointment of Stomatidin is possible after the doctor's assessment of the ratio of the expected benefit with a possible risk to the fetus.

If it is necessary to use the drug during lactation, consider stopping breastfeeding.

Instructions for the use of Stomatidin: method and dosage

Stomatidin is used topically.

Always use undiluted solution for rinsing.

The drug should not be swallowed; after the end of the procedure, it should be spit out.

The recommended regimen for the use of the drug in the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx (throat): rinses for 30 seconds, a single dose of 10-25 ml (1 tablespoon).

For diseases of the oral cavity, Stomatidin solution can be applied using a tampon.

The frequency of application of the drug is 2 times a day, after meals, preferably in the morning and evening.

The duration of the treatment course is determined by the doctor on an individual basis.
