Eye drops Slezin
Eye drops Slezin

Slezin is a combined keratoprotective drug for topical use in ophthalmology.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - eye drops: colorless, transparent solution (in a white polymer dropper bottle, 15 ml, in a cardboard box 1 bottle).

Composition of 1 ml solution:

  • active substances: hypromellose - 3 mg; dextran-70 - 1 mg;
  • auxiliary components: glycerol, boric acid, sodium tetraborate decahydrate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, disodium edetate dihydrate, benzalkonium chloride, 1M hydrochloric acid solution or 1M sodium hydroxide solution (up to pH 7.4 ± 0.1), purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Slezin is a keratoprotective agent, an artificial tear. It contains a water-soluble polymer system, which, in cooperation with natural tear fluid, improves the hydration of the cornea and makes its surface hydrophilic by activating the usual adsorption processes at the interface between the tear film and the corneal surface. Slezin increases the stability of the tear film on the surface of the cornea due to physiological mixing with it.

The drug helps to reduce the symptoms of irritation associated with keratoconjunctivitis dry and to protect the cornea from drying out. Slezin's action lasts for 1.5 hours after a single instillation.

Pharmacokinetics

With local use, the active substances of the drug are absorbed slightly and do not have a systemic effect.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Slezin is used to treat keratoconjunctivitis dry (dry eye syndrome).

Contraindications

  • age up to 18 years:
  • increased individual sensitivity to hypromellose, dextran or any auxiliary component of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Slezin: method and dosage

Eye drops Slezin are applied topically.

Adults are advised to instill 1-2 drops into the lower conjunctival sac as needed.

Side effects

Clinical studies have shown that blurred vision was most often observed during the use of Slezin.

The incidence of side effects from systems and organs on a special scale (> 0.1 - very often; 0.01–0.1 - often; 0.001–0.01 - infrequently; 0.0001–0.001 - rarely; <0, 0001 - extremely rare; frequency unknown - in case of insufficient data):

  • organ of vision: very often - a temporary decrease in visual acuity; often - residual symptoms of dry eye syndrome, unusual sensations in the eyes, eyelid abnormalities, discomfort in the eyes, foreign body sensation; infrequently - eye irritation, itching, conjunctival injection, eye hypesthesia, photophobia; frequency unknown - edema of the conjunctiva, erythema of the eyelids, crusts on the edges of the eyelids, discharge from the eyes, pain in the eyes, lacrimation;
  • immune system: frequency unknown - hypersensitivity;
  • nervous system: infrequently - headache;
  • local reactions: infrequently - a feeling of discomfort on the skin.

Overdose

At this time, no cases of overdose have been recorded. The characteristics of the drug give reason to consider the likelihood of developing toxic effects from an overdose of the solution when applied topically or unintentionally swallowed as insignificant.

In case of instillation of an excessive amount of Slezin into the conjunctival cavity, it is recommended to rinse the eyes with warm water.

special instructions

Slezin eye drops are intended exclusively for topical use in ophthalmology to relieve the symptoms of dry eye syndrome, accompanied by dryness, discomfort, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, irritation caused by flickering of a monitor or TV, air conditioning, smoke, dust, wind, dry heat, ultraviolet rays and other factors.

Slezin is not used for injection.

If you experience a headache, change in vision, pain in the eyes, irritation of the eyes, persistent redness and persistence of negative symptoms or worsening of the condition for more than three days, it is necessary to stop using Slezin and consult a doctor.

Contact of the drug with soft contact lenses should be avoided, since the solution contains benzalkonium chloride, which can discolor soft contact lenses and cause eye irritation.

Before instilling Slezin, you must remove your contact lenses. They should be installed back no earlier than 15 minutes after the procedure.

The drug has no effect on male and female fertility, since hypromellose and dextran-70 are pharmacologically inert substances.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

If when using the drug there is a temporary blurred vision, before driving and performing work associated with an increased risk of accidents, you must wait until the full restoration of vision clarity.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

There is no information on the use of Slezin during pregnancy.

Since hypromellose and dextran do not have pharmacological activity, the absorption of substances into the systemic circulation is insignificant, this excludes the possibility of their effect on reproductive function and fetal development. Therefore, the use of the drug in pregnant women is possible.

The degree of penetration of the active and auxiliary components of Slezin into breast milk is unknown. However, there is no need to stop breastfeeding. It is allowed to use the drug during lactation.

Pediatric use

Since there are no data on the safety and effectiveness of the use of eye drops in children and adolescents under 18 years of age, it is contraindicated to prescribe Slezin to this category of patients.

Drug interactions

Despite the fact that the drug interaction of the components of the drug with other drugs has not been studied, clinically significant consequences are not expected.
