Pharmacological properties
Ocuwaite Forte is one of the dietary supplements containing antioxidant vitamins C and E, essential carotenoids of plant origin (zeaxanthin and lutein), trace elements selenium and zinc.
Carotenoids have an anti-inflammatory effect, help protect the retina from the damaging effects of bright light, and reduce the likelihood of age-related degenerative changes in the retina. Other active ingredients are natural antioxidants. They are necessary to reduce the impact of adverse factors and preserve vision, help to strengthen blood vessels, including the vessels of the fundus.
The main properties of active ingredients:
- zeaxanthin: promotes the destruction of lipofuscin, participates in the defense mechanism against light-induced cell damage; is a yellow pigment from the group of xanthophylls, which accumulates in the pigment epithelium of the human retina;
- lutein: is a carotenoid that naturally protects the retina from too bright light;
- vitamin C: one of the most important antioxidants needed by humans; takes part in the regulation of carbohydrate metabolism, redox processes, blood clotting, restoration of visual pigments; helps to reduce increased intraocular pressure, the likelihood of glaucoma;
- vitamin E: is a biological antioxidant that inactivates free radicals and prevents their appearance; prevents an increase in capillary fragility / permeability; refers to the means of preventing the appearance of cataracts;
- selenium: it is a strong antioxidant that protects cells from the toxic effects of peroxide radicals;
- zinc: takes part in the processes of antioxidant protection of cell membranes; taking zinc helps to slow down age-related changes in the retina, protect the eyes from damage due to exposure to bright light and ultraviolet radiation; zinc deficiency can lead to a decrease in color perception, the development of cataracts.
In the course of clinical studies, it was found that long-term use of zeaxanthin and lutein helps maintain high visual acuity and increases the density of macular pigment.
