Oxybral is a means to stimulate brain activity.
pharmachologic effect
The active ingredient of Oxybral is vincamine - one of the alkaloids of the small periwinkle plant (Vinca minor). Vincamine improves metabolism in brain tissues by activating the process of glucose uptake by brain cells. Tissue trophism is also normalized due to the stimulation of cerebral circulation - under the action of Oksibral, blood flow in the vessels of the brain is normalized, since it has a selective, moderately dilating (expanding) effect on the vessels of the brain basin. Numerous reviews of Oksibral by specialists indicate that the drug eliminates oxygen deficiency in brain tissues by increasing the supply of oxygen to neurons.
Thus, Oxybral has a complex effect on brain tissue, stimulating its functions, improving energy supply and eliminating hypoxia of brain tissue.
Has no toxic effect on blood, liver and kidneys.
Release form
Oxybral is available in the form of capsules and in the form of a solution for injection.
Sustained-release capsules, each containing microgranules of two colors - blue and white.
As part of one capsule: vincamine (30 g) and excipients: sucrose, lactose, povidone, methacrylic acid copolymer, shellac, gelatin, talc, erythrosine, blue sepispers, indigo carmine. The blister contains 20 capsules.
Solution for injection is available in ampoules of 2 ml, transparent colorless or slightly yellowish. Each ampoule contains 15mg of vincamine and excipients: propylene glycol, tartaric acid, sodium metabisulfite, sodium bicarbonate, tartaric acid, purified water for injection. The package contains 5 ampoules.
Oksibral's analogs
An analogue of Oxybral is the drug Vinoxin, which contains the same active ingredient, vincamine. Aminalon, Cavinton and other neurometabolic stimulants have a similar effect. By the nature of the action rendered, Nootropil and other drugs, the active substance of which is piracetam, can also be attributed to Oxybral analogs. However, unlike Oxybral, piracetam-containing drugs do not have a vasodilating effect on cerebral vessels.
Indications for the use of Oksibral
The use of Oksibral is indicated for all types of impairment or decrease in brain activity. According to the instructions, Oksibral is prescribed for the following indications:
- Medical rehabilitation after an ischemic stroke and as a prophylaxis against the threat of its development;
- Insufficiency of cerebral circulation;
- Increased intracranial pressure;
- Hypertension, especially with a pronounced cerebral component;
- Migraine and migraine-like attacks;
- Dizziness attacks of unknown origin;
- Deterioration of concentration and memory due to various pathologies (atherosclerosis of cerebral vessels, consequences of traumatic brain injury, consequences of surgical intervention on the brain, angiopathy of diabetic genesis, etc.);
- As part of complex therapy for climacteric changes in women;
- Deterioration of speech, vision and hearing of vascular and neurological genesis;
- As part of complex therapy in the treatment of mental illness;
- Decreased intellectual ability in the elderly;
- Underdevelopment of intellectual abilities in childhood and adolescence, including severe mental retardation.
There are reviews about Oksibral, confirming the advisability of its use for cerebral palsy, as well as for stimulating mental abilities, if necessary, intense mental activity.
Side effects
When used in accordance with the instructions, Oxybral is well tolerated by patients. Side effects are extremely rare, and are usually caused by an individual hypersensitivity to vincamine or by exceeding the recommended dosage of Oxybral. However, in medical practice, the following side effects are noted as a result of taking the drug:
- Psychomotor agitation;
- Heart rhythm disorder;
- Headache;
- Dizziness;
- Dyspepsia: heartburn, nausea, dry mouth, stool disturbances;
- Allergic reactions: pruritus, urticaria, erythema, angioedema.
To eliminate side effects, reduce the dosage of the drug, or interrupt treatment for 1-2 days. In the event of allergic reactions, replace Oxybral with another drug of a similar action.
Instructions for the use of Oksibral
Following the instructions, Oksibral is prescribed 1 capsule (30 mg) 2 times a day. Also, the drug can be prescribed in the form of intramuscular or intravenous injections, in this case the dosage for adults: 2 ampoules intramuscularly, or intravenously drip in combination with an isotonic solution for infusion, twice a day.
It is recommended to use Oxybral in pediatric practice exclusively in the form of intramuscular injections or intravenous infusions, a single dose of 15 mg of active ingredient (1 ampoule), 1 or 2 times a day as prescribed by a doctor.
The duration of therapy with this drug is determined in each case individually. Due to its good tolerance and the absence of a pronounced toxic effect, if indicated, long-term use is possible - up to a year.
Oxybral is prohibited to use without a doctor's prescription.
Contraindications
The use of Oksibral is contraindicated in the presence of increased individual sensitivity to any of the components of the drug, heart rhythm disturbances, brain tumors, hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, convulsive syndrome of undetected genesis. The drug is not recommended to be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as no studies have been conducted to confirm its safety during these periods.
In the case of treatment of concomitant diseases with other drugs during the use of Oksibral, it is necessary to notify the attending physician about this, since undesirable interactions are possible.
