Wormwood tincture is a herbal preparation that stimulates the motor and secretory functions of the gastrointestinal tract.
Release form and composition
The dosage form is a transparent brownish-green liquid with a characteristic odor (25, 40 or 50 ml each in dark glass bottles or orange glass dropper bottles, 1 bottle or dropper bottle in a cardboard box).
The composition of 1 ml of tincture includes:
- active substance: bitter wormwood (herb) - 200 mg;
- auxiliary component: 70% ethanol - in an amount sufficient to obtain 1 ml of tincture.
Pharmacological properties
According to the instructions, wormwood tincture has a choleretic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect.
The main biologically active substances are absintin and arsumin (individual lactone and the sum of lactones). The mechanism of action is based on irritation of the taste buds of the mucous membranes of the mouth and tongue, resulting in increased secretion of gastric juice, increased appetite and improved digestion.
Indications for use
The indications for Wormwood Tincture are the following diseases / conditions:
- Biliary dyskinesia;
- Hypo- and anacid gastritis;
- Poor appetite;
- Chronic cholecystitis.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- increased gastric secretion;
- peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
- hyperacid gastritis;
- acute cholecystitis;
- reflux esophagitis;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- age up to 12 years;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative (the remedy is prescribed under medical supervision):
- diseases of the brain;
- alcoholism;
- liver disease;
- traumatic brain injury;
- age from 12 years.
Instructions for use of Wormwood tincture: method and dosage
Wormwood tincture is taken orally, preferably 15-30 minutes before meals.
Single dose - 15-20 drops, frequency rate - 3 times a day.
The course of treatment is 20-25 days.
Side effects
During therapy, the development of such side effects as: nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, gastralgia, allergic reactions; with prolonged use - vomiting.
Overdose
The main symptoms (with a long course in doses exceeding the recommended ones): dizziness, headache, tremors, convulsions.
Therapy: symptomatic.
