Kolokit tablets
Kolokit tablets

Kolokit is a laxative with hyperosmotic action.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of tablets: oval from almost white to white, on one side there is a dividing line, on one half of which is engraved SLX, on the other - "102", the other side of the tablet is smooth, without overprints (32 pcs. With two bags with desiccant silica gel in a bottle made of high density polyethylene with a propylene cap; in a cardboard box 1 bottle and instructions for use of Kolokit).

1 tablet contains:

  • active substances: sodium hydrogen phosphate - 398 mg, sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate - 1102 mg;
  • additional components: magnesium stearate, macrogol 8000.

Pharmacological properties

The drug has a hyperosmotic laxative effect due to an increase in osmotic pressure in the cavity of the small intestine. The accumulation of fluid in the ileum leads to stretching of the intestine, which increases peristalsis and accelerates its emptying.

Indications for use

Kolokit is recommended for use for cleansing the colon in order to prepare for the following studies or surgical interventions:

  • colonoscopy;
  • X-ray examinations of the abdominal organs;
  • surgical operations that require the absence of contents in the colon.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • children and adolescents less than 18 years old;
  • old age over 75 years;
  • hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Do not use the drug Kolokit if you have a history of the following diseases:

  • unstable angina;
  • congestive heart failure;
  • ascites;
  • primary hyperparathyroidism associated with hypercalcemia;
  • clinically significant renal failure;
  • active bowel disease, inflammatory;
  • severe chronic constipation, diagnosed or suspected obstruction;
  • megacolon (congenital / acquired) or gastric bypass surgery;
  • intestinal perforation;
  • hypokinesia syndrome (due to scleroderma, hypothyroidism).

Relative contraindications (it is recommended to use Kolokit tablets with caution in the following diseases / conditions):

  • clinically significant arterial hypotension (also associated with hypovolemia);
  • high risk of developing renal failure with existing previous electrolyte disorders or the risk of the latter;
  • heart disease (including acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina);
  • old age or a general weakened condition (in patients of this risk group, it is recommended to monitor the content of chlorides, potassium, sodium, phosphates, bicarbonates, creatinine and urea in the blood serum before and after using Kolokit);
  • gastrointestinal hypokinesia, a history of gastrointestinal (GIT) surgery, diseases predisposing to gastrointestinal hypokinesia, adherence to a diet low in salt;
  • concomitant use of diuretics, drugs that block angiotensin receptors and / or inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE);
  • combined use with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), since in this case dehydration and hypovolemia can be aggravated;
  • a combination with parathyroid hormone (PTH), since the latter regulates serum calcium levels in the blood as a result of effects on the kidneys, intestines and bones, and also reduces the process of phosphate reabsorption from the proximal renal tubules, which leads to an increase in phosphate excretion in the urine; due to the fact that Kolokit contains phosphates, there is a risk of interaction.

Kolokit, instructions for use: method and dosage

Kolokit is taken orally, tablets can be taken with water or other liquid.

The drug should be taken the day before the examination / surgery, the patient's breakfast on that day should include foods low in fiber - toast, coffee / tea with or without sugar, butter or honey / fruit jelly. At lunchtime and later, you can only consume liquids, for example, water, diluted fruit juice without pulp, light soup, weak black coffee or tea, carbonated drinks.

On the eve of the examination / operation, it is recommended to take 4 tablets of Kolokit with 250 ml of liquid, then the same dose (4 tablets with 250 ml of liquid) should be taken 4 more times with an interval of 15 minutes. Thus, the total dose of tablets taken the day before the examination / operation should be 20 pcs.

On the day of the examination / operation (4-5 hours before the start), you should take 4 tablets of Kolokit with 250 ml of liquid and then repeat taking the same dose 2 more times with an interval of 15 minutes, in total, the total dose of tablets on this day should be 12 pcs.

  • immune system: rarely - hypersensitivity reaction, allergic dermatitis;
  • cardiovascular system: extremely rarely - hypotension, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction;
  • metabolism: rarely - dehydration; extremely rare - hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, hypernatremia, hyperphosphatemia, metabolic acidosis;
  • Gastrointestinal tract: very often - abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, diarrhea; often - vomiting; abnormal gastroscopy - erythematous gastritis, accompanied by lesions and / or necrotic superficial ulceration in the intestine, usually asymptomatic and spontaneously regressive; abnormal colonoscopy - single / multiple aphthous ulceration located in the rectum or sigmoid colon; are not clinically significant and go away on their own without therapy;
  • kidney and urinary tract: an increase in creatinine levels, an increase in nitrogen concentration in the urine, nephrocalcinosis, acute renal failure, acute tubular necrosis and acute phosphate nephropathy;

Overdose

Symptoms of an overdose of Kolokit may include the following disorders: dehydration, anxiety, bradycardia, tachycardia, hypotension, tachypnea, dyspnea, convulsions, paralytic bowel obstruction, pain, shock, respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest. Taking the drug in an excessively high dose can cause an increase in the content of phosphates and sodium in the blood serum, and a decrease in potassium and calcium. This increases the likelihood of hyperphosphatemia, hypernatremia, hypokalemia, hypocalcemia and acidosis.

Against the background of this condition, rehydration and intravenous infusion of 10% calcium gluconate are recommended.

special instructions

Kolokit should not be used to treat constipation.

Other laxatives, especially those containing sodium phosphate, should not be taken simultaneously with Kolokit.

It is necessary to strictly follow the regimen of taking the drug and consume as much liquid as possible to prevent dehydration, as well as to maximize the cleansing of the colon.

Patients on a low sodium diet should take into account that 1 tablet of Kolokita contains 313 mg of sodium.

Kolokit can be reused no earlier than 7 days after the previous application.

As a rule, after taking the drug, the effect of the drug is observed for 0.5-6 hours, if during this period the intestinal motility does not increase, you should stop taking the drug and immediately consult a doctor because of the possible threat of dehydration.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Since Kolokit can lead to the development of drowsiness, presumably due to dehydration, during the period of use of the drug, it is prohibited to operate complex mechanisms, including motor vehicles.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Reception of Kolokit is prohibited for pregnant and lactating women.

Pediatric use

Treatment with Kolokit is contraindicated in patients under 18 years of age.

With impaired renal function

Kolokit should not be used if there is a history of clinically significant renal failure. It is recommended to take the drug with extreme caution if there is a high risk of developing functional impairment of the kidneys, against the background of previous electrolyte disorders or if they are threatened.

Use in the elderly

Elderly patients need to use the drug with extreme caution. Colokit is contraindicated for persons over 75 years old.

Drug interactions

  • oral contraceptives, antiepileptic drugs, antidiabetic drugs: there is a significant decrease or complete absence of the therapeutic effect of these drugs;
  • diuretics, calcium channel blockers, lithium preparations or other drugs that can affect serum electrolytes: the threat of hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, acidosis or hypernatremic dehydration is aggravated.
