Iodopiron is an antiseptic preparation for external use.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms:

  • Powder for preparation of a solution for external use (150, 1500 or 3000 g in double polyethylene bags, in a black opaque film bag - 1 double bag; 150 g each in polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate cans);
  • Solution for external use: film-forming dark brown liquid with a slight specific odor or without it (50 or 100 ml in polymer bottles, 100 ml in glass bottles, in a cardboard box 1 bottle and instructions for the use of Yodopiron; 500 or 1000 ml each in polymer bottles and 100, 200, 225, 250, 400, 410, 425 or 450 ml in glass bottles - for hospitals).

The active substance is iodine:

  • 100 g of powder - 9.4 g;
  • 1000 ml solution - 14.1 g.

Auxiliary components:

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Iodopyrone is an antiseptic agent that, when applied externally, has a bactericidal (against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including antibiotic-resistant strains of E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and proteus), anti-inflammatory and fungicidal action.

Indications for use

  • Powder for solution preparation: for disinfection of donor elbows, surgeon's hands, surgical gloves and operating field; in the treatment of burns, purulent and infected wounds, osteomyelitis;
  • Solution: externally - in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory skin lesions, trauma, wounds, myalgia; locally - for chronic tonsillitis, atrophic rhinitis, purulent otitis media, trophic and varicose ulcers, wounds, infected burns, fresh thermal and chemical burns of I-II degree; ingestion - therapy of tertiary syphilis, for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis.

Contraindications

Iodopiron is contraindicated for use in the presence of individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Additional absolute contraindications for Iodopiron solution for external use:

  • Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis;
  • Hyperthyroidism;
  • Thyroid adenoma;
  • Condition before treatment with radioactive iodine;
  • Renal failure;
  • The neonatal period (especially in premature babies).

Relative contraindications (Iodopiron in all dosage forms is prescribed under medical supervision):

  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding period;

Iodopiron, instructions for use: method and dosage

  • Powder: intended for external use. In pharmacy conditions, a 1% solution is prepared from the powder, the solutions are adjusted to 0.1-0.5% concentration immediately before use. For hand disinfection, surgeons use 5 ml of a 0.1% solution, the surgical field is treated with a tampon soaked in the solution. Patients with extensive burns are immersed for 10-15 minutes in a bath with a solution prepared in a ratio of 1:32 or 1:50. In the complex treatment of purulent wounds, treatment of the elbow folds of donors, 0.5% and 1% iodine solutions are used;
  • Solution: externally used to treat damaged skin. When taken orally, the doctor prescribes the dose individually, taking into account the patient's age and clinical indications. Locally: in case of burns and in surgical practice, gauze napkins soaked in solution are applied as needed to the affected areas; for washing the supratonsillar spaces and lacunae - 4-5 procedures every 2-3 days; in the treatment of the nasopharynx - 2-3 irrigations per week for 2-3 months; instillation and washing of the ears - for 2-4 weeks.

Side effects

The use of the powder for the preparation of a solution for external use can cause side effects in the form of dry skin, itching, the development of allergic reactions (urticaria, hyperemia), temporary burning sensation is possible when wetting extensive wound surfaces.

Side effects of the solution can be:

  • External use: rarely - skin irritation; when applied to extensive wound surfaces for a long time - iodism (urticaria, rhinitis, Quincke's edema, acne, increased salivation and lacrimation);
  • Ingestion: tachycardia, sleep disturbances, skin allergic reactions, nervousness, excessive sweating, diarrhea in patients over 40 years old.

Overdose

Main symptoms: irritation at the site of application.

Therapy: symptomatic.

With prolonged use of the drug (from 7-10 days), the development of iodism is possible, which manifests itself in the form of a metallic taste in the mouth, increased salivation, swelling of the larynx or eyes, etc. In such cases, you should interrupt the use of Iodopiron and seek medical advice.

Accidental ingestion of iodine can damage the gastrointestinal mucosa. In this case, it is necessary to flush the stomach with a 0.5% sodium thiosulfate solution. As an antidote, mucous drink, activated charcoal, flour broth, starch paste, milk are used orally. Intravenous administration is also possible every 4 hours, 10 ml of 10% sodium thiosulfate solution. Symptomatic treatment is indicated.

Iodopyrone reduces the strumogenic and hypothyroid effects of lithium preparations.
