Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Immunal is one of the herbal immunostimulating drugs.

Echinacea purpurea (Echinacea purpurea Moench) contains active substances that help to strengthen the body's natural defenses and act as immune stimulants.

With an increase in the number of leukocytes (granulocytes) and the activation of phagocytosis, the reproduction of microorganisms in the human body is suppressed, which contributes to the destruction of pathogenic bacteria. The antiviral effect of the herb Echinacea purpurea against the causative agents of herpes and influenza has also been established.

Indications for use

Immunal is prescribed for the prevention of influenza and colds, strengthening immunity with a predisposition to the development of frequent colds and uncomplicated acute infectious diseases, as well as an adjunct in the prolonged use of antibiotic drugs in the treatment of chronic infectious diseases, which are accompanied by a decrease in immunity.

Contraindications

  • Progressive autoimmune and systemic diseases (leukemia, tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis, collagenoses, AIDS, HIV infection);
  • Age up to 4 years (tablets) and up to 1 year (oral solution);
  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as to plants of the Asteraceae family.

Immunal, instructions for use: method and dosage

The drug is taken orally.

Immunal tablets are taken with water. Young children are advised to crush a tablet and mix it with juice, tea or water (a small amount).

For the correct dosing of the Immunal solution, it is recommended to use the supplied graduated dosing pipette. The required number of drops must be diluted in a small volume of water before taking.

As a rule, the drug is prescribed:

  • Adults and children over 12 years old: 1 tablet 3-4 times a day or 2.5 ml of solution 3 times a day;
  • Children 6-12 years old: 1 tablet 1-3 times a day or 1.5 ml of solution 3 times a day;
  • Children 4-6 years old: 1 tablet 1-2 times a day;
  • Children 1-6 years old: 1 ml of solution 3 times a day.

To achieve a therapeutic effect, Immunal is recommended to be taken for at least 7 days. You should not take the drug continuously for more than 2 months.

Side effects

When using Immunal, in some cases, hypersensitivity reactions may occur: itching, skin rash, bronchospasm, shortness of breath, dizziness, angioedema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylactic shock, lowering blood pressure.

With continuous administration of the drug for more than 2 months, leukopenia may develop.

If any side effects occur, it is necessary to interrupt therapy and consult a doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms of intoxication associated with drug overdose were not observed.

special instructions

Before taking Immunal, children under 12 years of age and patients with a history of allergic diseases and bronchial asthma should consult with their doctor.

If the symptoms of the disease persist for 10 days, you should consult with the doctor who prescribed the treatment.

When storing a solution for oral administration, a flocculent sediment consisting of active polysaccharides is allowed. Before using the drug, the bottle with the contents must be shaken thoroughly.

The oral solution contains 20% ethanol.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

There is no information on the negative effects of Immunal on the course of pregnancy. Before starting therapy during pregnancy / lactation, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

Pediatric use

Immunal tablets are contraindicated in children under 4 years of age, oral solution - up to 1 year.

Drug interactions

The composition of the Immunal solution includes ethanol, which is why it can change or enhance the effect of other drugs.

With the use of antibiotic drugs of the cephalosporin group (moxalactam, cefotetan, cefamandol, cefoperazone, cefmenoxime), clinically significant drug interactions were observed simultaneously with taking even a small amount of ethanol. The reaction of patients was characterized by nausea, headache, facial flushing, palpitations, and increased sweating. To avoid this, Immunal in the form of a solution for oral administration should not be used together with the above antibiotics (taking the drug is possible only 3 days after the end of the course of therapy with the indicated cephalosporins).

Mutual weakening of the action is noted with the simultaneous use of Immunal with immunosuppressants.

There are no data on any interaction with other drugs.
