Release form and composition
Diosmectite is produced in the form of a powder for preparing a suspension for oral administration: from yellowish-white to grayish-yellow or from grayish-white to brownish-yellow, has a vanillin smell (3.76 g each in heat-sealable bags, 5, 10, 20 or 30 bags in a cardboard box).
Composition of 1 package of powder:
- active substance: dioctahedral smectite - 3000 mg;
- excipients: dextrose (glucose) - 749 mg, soluble saccharin (sodium saccharinate) - 7 mg, vanillin - 4 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
A preparation of natural origin that has an adsorbing effect. It normalizes the mucous barrier, creates polyvalent bonds with mucus glycoproteins, increases the amount of mucus, improves its gastroprotective properties (in terms of the negative effect of hydrogen ions HC1, microorganisms and their toxins, as well as bile salts). Has selective sorption properties, which are explained by its discoid-crystal structure, adsorbs viruses and bacteria in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract. In therapeutic doses, it has no effect on intestinal motility.
Pharmacokinetics
It is excreted from the body unchanged, not absorbed.
Indications for use
- gastritis;
- peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
- colitis;
- diarrhea (medicinal, allergic genesis or due to a violation of the qualitative composition of food and diet);
- diarrhea of infectious genesis - as part of combination therapy;
- symptomatic treatment of heartburn, flatulence and abdominal discomfort in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to drug components;
- intestinal obstruction.
Instructions for the use of Diosmectite: method and dosage
Adults are advised to take three packets a day for at least 3 days. For acute diarrhea, the daily dose may be doubled at the initial stage of treatment.
Before taking the contents of 1 packet, dilute in half a glass of liquid. To obtain a uniform suspension, the contents of the package must be gradually poured into the liquid, stirring slowly. For esophagitis, Diosmectitis is best taken after meals, in other cases between meals.
Children:
- up to 1 year - 1 package per day;
- from 1 to 2 years old - 2 packages per day;
- over 2 years old - 2-3 packages per day.
The course of treatment is at least 3 days. The powder is dissolved in a baby bottle (about 50 ml) and distributed in multiple doses throughout the day, or thoroughly dissolved with any semi-liquid product (soup, compote, puree, porridge, baby food).
Side effects
