Gorno-Altai Balsam is a biologically active food supplement (BAA), an additional source of flavonoids in the form of a tonic drink containing juices from fruits and berries, essential oils of medicinal plants, natural bee honey, powder from non-ossified antlers of marals (red deer).

Release form and composition

Gorno-Altai Balsam is produced in the form of an aqueous infusion (500 ml or 250 ml each in dark glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

The balm contains:

  • active ingredients: sea buckthorn juice (Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Juice), bird cherry juice (Fructus potum Prunus padus), apple juice (Malum Fruit Juice), maral antlers powder (Pulveris cornibus arboreis Marala), extract from a vegetable mixture (Extractum ex materia mixtisque): cedar nut (Semina Pinus sibirica), lingonberry leaves (Vaccinium Vitis-Idaea Leaf), black poplar (buds) [Populus nigra (gemma)], oregano (Origanum vulgare), bergenia (Bergenia), mint (Mentha), yarrow (Achillea Millefolium), fireweed (Epilobium), calendula flowers (Calendula Officinalis Flower), calamus (Acorus), water pepper (Persicaria hydropiper), burdock (Arctium), Rhodiola rosea, natural honey (Mel naturalis);
  • auxiliary components: sugar syrup, sodium benzoate preservative (E211).

Pharmacological properties

Gorno-Altai Balsam is a non-alcoholic combined tonic drink made from medicinal herbs and maral antlers.

The tonic effect of the balm is due to the content of useful components and their following properties:

  • maral antlers: have a tonic effect on the body, stimulate sexual function, promote faster wound healing. Their properties are due to the content of mineral salts, complex organic compounds, enzymes, vitamins and 25 different amino acids. The mineral composition of antlers includes iron, silicon, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium;
  • pine nut: contains the richest set of amino acids, fats, proteins, carbohydrates. In addition, it is a source of lecithin, nitrogenous substances, ash, moisture, glucose, sucrose, fructose, starch, fiber, dextrins, pentosans. Some amino acids are unique and have no analogues, and they have a beneficial effect on the human body;
  • lingonberry leaves: have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, choleretic, immunomodulatory and astringent effects. A decoction of the leaves is used in the treatment of kidney diseases, gout, in order to soften and remove stones and salts;
  • black poplar: the extract of the buds of this tree has a diuretic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, analgesic, antimicrobial, antiviral, wound healing, antitumor, sedative, astringent and antipruritic effect;
  • oregano: has a calming effect on the central nervous system. It has choleretic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, high antibacterial activity. Promotes the normalization of the activity of the gastrointestinal tract, increased intestinal peristalsis;
  • badan: a plant with phytoncidal activity, has a pronounced astringent property due to the high content of tannins. It causes superficial tissue compaction, which is accompanied by a decrease in pain, a restriction of glandular secretion, and a weakening of the inflammatory response. Due to the content of arbutin in the roots and rhizomes, bergenia has a pronounced antimicrobial effect. Its extract is used in the treatment of cervical erosion, bleeding and fibroids;
  • mint: has an antispasmodic, choleretic, antimicrobial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, mild laxative and carminative effect, has a weak sedative effect. Medicines from mint leaves are used as local pain relievers, as well as for the treatment of migraines, angina pectoris, cerebral vasospasm, diseases of the digestive system;
  • burdock roots: in mucus, essential and fatty oils, it contains palmitic and stearic acids, sistostearin, stigmasterol, mineral salts, inulin, vitamins, including ascorbic acid, tannins and bitter substances;
  • Yarrow: has antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, wound healing, anti-allergic activity. Its use causes the expansion of the bile ducts, which leads to an increase in bile secretion into the duodenum. Increases diuresis, blood clotting, without affecting the level of fibrin and globulin concentration. Strengthens the secretion of gastric juice, has an effect on the smooth muscles of the intestines, urinary tract, reduces flatulence;
  • fireweed (ivan tea): its leaves and flowers contain a large amount of carotenoids, vitamin C, B vitamins, tannins, flavonoids, phytostyrene, chlorophyll, pectin. The presence of iron, manganese and copper ensures the normal functioning of the hematopoietic system and metabolic processes;
  • calendula: contains carotenoids, ascorbic acid, paraffinic carbohydrates, resins, glycosides, organic acids, mucous and bitter substances. It has a pronounced antispasmodic effect. Activates the processes of bile formation and bile secretion, increases the secretory activity of the stomach;
  • calamus: the content of bitter glycoside in calamus rhizomes potentiates the excitability of the endings of the taste nerves. This causes an increase in the reflex separation of gastric juice, including hydrochloric acid, an increase in the biliary function of the liver, the tone of the gallbladder, and diuresis. Its essential oils are anti-inflammatory;
  • water pepper: used in folk medicine to heal wounds and stop bleeding.
