Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Herbion esculus herbal preparation contains a liquid extract of sweet clover grass and a standardized extract of horse chestnut seeds. It has venotonic properties and reduces the permeability of small blood vessels (capillaries).
Flavone glycosides contained in horse chestnut seed extract have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet and venotonic effects. They reduce the permeability of veins and capillaries, and also improve microcirculation in small blood vessels.
Herbion esculus enhances the capillary-protective effect. As a result of the application of the gel, inflammation decreases, the capillaries become less permeable, the filtration of water, electrolytes and low molecular weight proteins into the intercellular space is prevented, and the metabolism of the tissues improves.
During treatment with the drug, swelling of the legs is significantly reduced, pain and feeling of heaviness in the legs disappear, and inflammatory processes are eliminated.
Pharmacokinetics
According to preclinical studies, after applying the gel to the skin, about 1% of horse chestnut seed extract is absorbed, in the skin its content is much higher - about 50% of the applied dose.
There is no information on the absorption of sweet clover herb extract with topical application of the gel.
Indications for use
Herbion esculus is used in patients with chronic venous insufficiency and peripheral circulatory disorders of various origins, for example, with pain and a feeling of heaviness in the legs, post-thrombophlebitic syndrome, varicose veins and leg edema during pregnancy.

Contraindications
The gel must not be applied to an area of skin with deep cuts, open wounds or trophic ulcers. Herbion esculus is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to its components.
