Spray for external use Generolon
Spray for external use Generolon

Generolone is a drug used in the treatment of alopecia.

Release form and composition

The dosage form of Generolon is a spray for external use: a transparent aqueous-alcoholic solution, somewhat colored (with a yellowish tinge) or colorless, has the smell of alcohol (in polyethylene bottles of 60 ml, in a cardboard box 1 or 2 bottles complete with 1 nozzle for spray and 1 plastic metering pump or 3 bottles complete with 2 spray nozzles and 2 plastic metering pumps).

Composition of 1 ml solution:

  • active substance: minoxidil - 20 or 50 mg;
  • auxiliary components (20/50 mg): 96% ethanol - 571/243 mg, propylene glycol - 104/520 mg, water - up to 1/1 ml.

Indications for use

Generolon is prescribed for the treatment of androgenic alopecia (in order to restore the hairline) and stabilize the process of hair loss in women and men.

Contraindications

  • dermatoses of the scalp;
  • violation of the integrity of the skin;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • age up to 18 years;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Generolon should be used with caution in patients over 65 years of age.

Method of administration and dosage

Generolone is applied externally, only on dry scalp. Rinse off the solution is not required.

The drug is applied 2 times a day in a volume of 1 ml using a dispenser (7 clicks) on the affected areas of the scalp (regardless of their area). Begin processing from the center of the problem area. After using the drug, wash your hands.

The maximum daily dose is 2 mg.

If a sufficient clinical effect is not observed when using a 2% solution, a 5% solution can be used.

Generolon is most effective in the following cases:

  • men: for hair restoration on the crown;
  • women: to restore hair in the middle parting area.

The appearance of the first results (signs of hair growth stimulation) can be observed after using Generolon 2 times a day for 4 months or longer. It should be borne in mind that the onset and severity of the effect (hair growth rate and hair quality) may differ in different patients.

According to isolated information, the restoration of the original appearance can be expected within 3-4 months after the termination of therapy.

The average duration of the course is 1 year.

Before use, remove the screw cap, then fix the metering pump. The extended spray nozzle attaches to the tube at the top of the pump. To prime the pump, press the spray nozzle 3-4 times. After that, the drug is ready for use.

Side effects

Local adverse reactions

Most often, the use of Generolone causes dermatitis of the scalp. Less commonly, more severe cases of dermatitis develop, which manifest as redness, inflammation and flaking. In rare cases, the following side reactions are noted: allergic contact dermatitis, itching of the head, folliculitis, seborrhea, hypertrichosis.

Generolon therapy can cause an increase in hair loss during the transition from the resting phase of hair to the growth phase, with the loss of old hair and the growth of new ones in their place. As a rule, this temporary phenomenon occurs 2-6 weeks after the start of therapy and gradually, over the next 2 weeks, stops (the first signs of drug action appear).

Systemic adverse reactions

In cases of accidental ingestion of Generolon's solution, the following disorders may develop:

  • respiratory system: allergic rhinitis, shortness of breath;
  • cardiovascular system: heart palpitations, edema, changes in heart rate, fluctuations in blood pressure, chest pain;
  • nervous system: vertigo, dizziness, headache, neuritis;
  • dermatological reactions: nonspecific allergic reactions (in the form of skin rash, urticaria), facial edema.

special instructions

You can not apply Generolon to other parts of the body.

The product should only be applied to dry scalp after bathing, the interval between application of the solution and bathing should be approximately 4 hours. No shampoo changes are required.

During the application of Generolon, it is possible to use hairspray and other hair care products. Before using them, you need to apply the solution and wait until the treated area is completely dry. There is no evidence that perming, hair coloring or the use of hair softeners can reduce the effectiveness of Generolone. However, before using these chemicals, to avoid possible scalp irritation, it is recommended to completely rinse the product off.

Before the appointment of therapy, it is necessary to undergo a general examination, including the collection and study of anamnestic data. You need to make sure your scalp is healthy.

In cases of development of systemic / severe skin adverse reactions, Generolone should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted.

Ethyl alcohol, which is part of the drug, can cause irritation and inflammation of the eyes. If the solution comes into contact with sensitive surfaces (irritated skin, eyes, mucous membranes), they should be rinsed with plenty of cold water.

After applying Generolon, wash your hands thoroughly.

When spraying the drug, avoid inhaling it.

Drug interactions

With the combined use of Generolon with certain drugs / substances, the following effects may develop:

  • cream with betamethasone content (0.05%): decreased systemic absorption of minoxidil;
  • cream with tretinoin content (0.05%): increased absorption of minoxidil;
  • drugs for external use, including dithranol, tretinoin, which can lead to a change in the protective functions of the skin: an increase in the absorption of minoxidil.

There is a theoretical probability (not confirmed by clinical data) of increased orthostatic hypotension in patients receiving concomitant therapy with peripheral vasodilators.

When taking minoxidil inside (tablets taken for arterial hypertension, especially its severe forms) in cases of simultaneous use of Generolon, a slight increase in the content of minoxidil in the blood is possible (clinical data have not been confirmed).
