Release form and composition
Dosage form - film-coated tablets: biconvex round, yellow with a greenish tinge; the core in a cross section is from light to gray-brown in color with a greenish tinge (in a cardboard box 1-5 blisters of 10, 25 or 50 pcs., or 1 can, bottle or polymer container of 30, 40, 50 or 100 PC.)
Composition of 1 tablet:
- active substance: valerian extract thick - 20 mg (the sum of esters of carboxylic acids in terms of ethyl ester of valeric acid - 1.8%);
- auxiliary components: lactose monohydrate - 43.11 mg; magnesium hydroxycarbonate - 20 mg; sucrose - 5 mg; potato starch - 10.84 mg; polysorbate 80 - 0.05 mg; calcium stearate monohydrate - 1 mg;
- shell: Opadry II yellow - 7 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The active principle of the drug is an ester of borneol and isovaleric acid.
Valerian extract has a moderately pronounced sedative effect, which develops slowly, but rather stable. Promotes natural sleep. It also has an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract.
Indications for use
- insomnia (sleep disturbance);
- increased nervous irritability;
- functional disorders of the cardiovascular system (in combination with other drugs);
- spasms of the gastrointestinal tract (in combination with other drugs).
Contraindications
Absolute:
- congenital fructose intolerance, sucrase / isomaltase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency;
- I trimester of pregnancy;
- age up to 12 years;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative (Valerian extract tablets are prescribed under medical supervision):
- chronic enterocolitis;
- II – III trimester of pregnancy;
- lactation period.
Instructions for the use of Valerian extract: method and dosage
The tablets are intended for oral administration.
The recommended dosage regimen is 3 times a day (preferably after meals), 1-2 tablets. The duration of the course is from 2 to 4 weeks. The doctor may prescribe a second dose of the drug.
Side effects
Possible side reactions: muscle weakness, lethargy, drowsiness, depression, decreased performance. With prolonged use, constipation may develop. In some cases, allergic reactions are possible.
Overdose
The main symptoms: increased side effects, including drowsiness, lethargy, muscle weakness, depression, decreased performance.
Therapy: symptomatic.
