Vagotil belongs to the group of local antiseptic drugs.

Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form of a solution for topical application of 36% (in dark glass bottles of 50 g, in a cardboard box 1 bottle and instructions for use of Vagotil).

The active ingredient is polycresulene; as an auxiliary component, the solution contains demineralized water.

Pharmacological properties

Vagotil is an antibacterial agent that is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella spp. The drug is also effective against Candida albicans and Trichomonas.

Polycresulene has an astringent and cauterizing effect, has local hemostatic and vasoconstrictor properties. Promotes the acceleration of the regeneration of epithelial cells.

As a result of local application, coagulation of necrotic tissue occurs, while a scab of a white opalescent color is formed. After 2-7 days, it is rejected.

Vagotil does not lead to scarring.

Indications for use

The appointment of Vagotil is advisable when:

  • Vaginitis caused by Candida albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis;
  • Erosion of the cervix and vagina;
  • Bleeding due to removal of polyps, diagnostic biopsy and electrocoagulation of cervical erosion;
  • Difficult healing wounds, including trophic ulcers of the leg;
  • Small surgical and dental interventions for the purpose of hemostasis.

Contraindications

Vagotil is contraindicated:

  • During menstruation in the treatment of gynecological diseases;
  • During pregnancy and lactation;
  • With increased sensitivity to the components of the solution.

When treating gynecological diseases, it is necessary to abandon sexual activity, as well as refrain from using soap solutions during hygiene procedures.

Vagotil is used with caution in dental operations in patients with caries.

Vagotil solution is intended for topical use only.

When treating erosion of the cervix and vagina, it is necessary 2-3 times a week (but not more than 10 days) to apply a tampon soaked in the drug for 1-3 minutes, after which the excess of the drug should be removed with a dry tampon.

For ulcers, burns, cracks in the mucous membrane and for douching the vagina, a solution is used prepared by diluting 10-15 ml of Vagotil's solution in 1 liter of warm water.

When using the drug for the purpose of hemostasis, it is necessary to put a tampon soaked in the drug on the bleeding place for 1-3 minutes.

Side effects

Vagotil can cause the following side effects:

  • Allergic reactions: local irritation, rash, itching, burning, anaphylaxis;
  • When applied to the oral mucosa: damage to tooth enamel;
  • When performing gynecological procedures: swelling of the vulva and vagina, redness, feeling of a foreign body in the vagina.
