Bifikol is a drug of the eubiotic group that normalizes the intestinal microflora.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - lyophilisate for preparation of suspension for oral administration: whitish-gray with a yellowish tinge, crystalline or porous mass with a specific odor; after dissolution in water, a cloudy suspension forms; the presence of small flakes is permissible (in multilayer sachets / vials for 5 doses, in a cardboard box 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 sachets / vials and instructions for use of Bificol).

Active substances in 1 dose:

  • Live Escherichia coli cells of strain M-17 - not less than 10 7;
  • Living cells of B. bifidum 1 strain - not less than 10 7.

Auxiliary components in Bifikol: gelatin, sugar (sucrose), milk (substances of a protective drying medium).

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The therapeutic effect of Bifikol is manifested due to the antagonistic activity of live bifidum bacteria and Escherichia coli in relation to pathogenic and opportunistic intestinal microflora, including Salmonella (Salmonella), Shigella (Shigella), Proteus (Proteus), etc.

Stimulating local reparative processes in the intestine, the drug exhibits adjuvant and immunomodulatory activity of bacterial antigens, which affect the production of non-specific and specific defense factors, including local ones.

Indications for use

The use of Bifikol is advisable for dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal tract, including those developing against the background:

  • Inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (colitis, ulcerative colitis, enterocolitis);
  • Intestinal infections (salmonellosis, dysentery, viral diarrhea).

The drug can also be prescribed during the recovery period after chemotherapy.

Contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Bifikol is the simultaneous therapy with antibiotic drugs.

Bifikol, instructions for use: method and dosage

The drug is recommended to be taken 30 minutes before meals, 2 times a day. Immediately before use, the lyophilisate should be diluted with boiled water at room temperature at the rate of 1 teaspoon of water for 1 dose.

Patients with high acidity 10 minutes before taking the medicine are recommended to drink half a glass of mineral water ("Essentuki No. 17", "Essentuki No. 14", "Borjomi") or sodium bicarbonate solution (half a teaspoon of soda per 200 ml of water).

The dosage of Bificol is determined based on the patient's age:

  • Adults and children over 3 years old are recommended to take 3-5 doses of the drug 2 times a day;
  • Children from 1 to 3 years old - 2-5 doses;
  • Children from 6 months to 1 year old - 1 dose.

The duration of therapy depends on the clinical form of the disease and the patient's condition:

  • The course of treatment for acute forms of the disease is at least 2 weeks;
  • With prolonged intestinal dysfunction and post-dysentery colitis - at least 4-6 weeks;
  • With chronic colitis, ulcerative colitis, enterocolitis - up to 45-60 days;
  • During the period of convalescence after chemotherapy - 21-30 days.

If necessary, repeated courses of therapy or maintenance doses of Bifikol (half the age-specific daily dose) can be prescribed for 1-1.5 months.
