Release form and composition
Dosage form - cream for external use: uniform, matte, from white to whitish-yellow, with a faint odor (3, 5, 30 or 100 g in a tube, in a cardboard box 1 tube).
Composition of 1 g of cream:
- active substances: dexpanthenol - 50 mg, chlorhexidine hydrochloride - 5 mg;
- auxiliary components: pantolactone, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, lanolin, white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, macrogol stearate, purified water.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Bepanten plus is a combined preparation, the action of which is due to the properties of its constituent components.
Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic that is active against gram-positive bacteria, strains of Staphylococcus aureus, most often causing skin infections. Chlorhexidine is less active against gram-negative pathogenic organisms. It also has a mild antifungal activity.
Dexpanthenol, entering the skin cells, is converted into pantothenic acid, which plays an important role in the healing and formation of the skin.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, chlorhexidine is practically not absorbed.
Dexpanthenol is absorbed into the skin, converting in its cells into pantothenic acid, which in turn binds to blood plasma proteins. It is excreted unchanged mainly in the urine - about 70%, the remaining ~ 30% - in the feces.
Indications for use
Bepanten Plus cream is indicated for the treatment and treatment of injuries with the threat of infection:
- light burns;
- small cuts;
- abrasions;
- combs;
- cracked nipples in nursing mothers;
- infected skin surfaces;
- infectious lesions (neurodermatitis, secondarily infected eczema);
- trophic ulcers of the leg;

Contraindications

- increased sensitivity to the components of the drug.
Instructions for use of Bepanten plus: method and dosage
The drug is used externally, applying a thin layer of cream on a previously cleansed skin surface, it is allowed to use the drug under bandages.
The maximum dose is 5 g / day.
Side effects
When using Bepanten plus, allergic reactions may develop, such as itching, rash, contact or allergic dermatitis, eczema, erythema, urticaria, irritation, anaphylactic reactions, anaphylactic shock.
Overdose
Overdose cases with external use have not been recorded.
Dexpanthenol in high doses has no toxic effect. There have been cases of increased aminotransferase levels associated with chlorhexidine poisoning.
Repeated application of the cream on the same skin area may cause irritation.
