Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of Batrafen, ciclopirox, has an antifungal effect. The mechanism of antifungal action is based on inhibiting the entry into the cell and inducing the elimination from the cell of components that are necessary for its vital activity.

When applied topically, the drug has a wide spectrum of action and is effective against yeast-like fungi (including fungi of the genus Candida), dermatomycetes, molds and other types of fungi. Batrafen also has activity against some strains of gram-negative / gram-positive bacteria.

The activity of the drug is noted against Candida (including C. pseudotropicalis, C. lipolytica, C. brumpti, C. guilliermondii, C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. utilis, C. krusei, C. parapsilosis, C. viswanathii), Trichophyton (including T. equinum, T. rubrum, T. ferrugineum, T. epilans, T. schoenleinii, T. gallinae, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. tonsurans, T. terrestre, T. quinckeanum, T. concentricum, T. soudanense, T. violaceum), Microsporum (including M. gypseum, M. langeronii, M. canis, M. audouinii, M. nanum), Madurella (including M. grisea, M. mycetomatis), Cladosporium (including C. carrionii, C. trichoides), Phialophora (including P. jeanselmei, P. pedrosoi, P. gougerotti), Aspergillus (including A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger), Penicillium (including P. chrysogenum, P. notatum), Paecilomyces variotii, Allescheria boydii,Leptosphaeria senegalensis, Pyrenochaeta romeroi, Hormodendrum dermatitidis, Epidermophyton floccosum, Sporotrichum schenckii, Cryptococcus neoformans, Histoplasma capsulatum, Torulopsis glabrata, Torula bergeri, Mucor miehei, Absidia corymbifera, Fusarium solani, Blastomyces dermatitidis, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, ciclopirox quickly penetrates the mucous membranes, skin and its appendages. Its concentration in these tissues 1.5-6 hours after application significantly exceeds the minimum inhibitory concentration against pathogenic fungi.

When applying a cream for external use on large areas (750 cm 2) and for a long time (6 hours and longer), the substance can be detected in the blood (1.3% of the dose), binding to plasma proteins - 94-97%, T 1 / 2 (half-life) is 1.7 hours. The main route of excretion is the kidneys.

With a one-day application of Batrafen varnish, the values of fungicidal concentrations are 20-30 times higher than the plasma C max (maximum concentration of the substance) (plasma C max for dermatophytes, fungi of the genus Candida, yeast-like and mold fungi is 0.98-3.9 μg / ml; Trichomonas vaginalis and mycoplasma - from 7.8 to 31.3 μg / ml).

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Batrafen is used to prevent and treat fungal infections of the mucous membranes, skin and nails.

Cyclopirox is active against moldy, yeast-like and other types of fungi, dermatomycetes and some types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
