The drug Hydrocortisone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid agent for systemic and local use, with a pronounced fast-acting anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative (decongestant), desensitizing (antiallergic) immunosuppressive, anti-shock and antitoxic effect.
Hydrocortisone inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators through a certain chain of reactions. The immunosuppressive effect of the drug is due to the inhibition of the reactions of the immune system.
Indications for the use of Hydrocortisone
For external use of Hydrocortisone, Hydrocortisone ointment is used for uninfected surface skin surfaces.
For topical use, eye drops and hydrocortisone eye ointment are used for inflammatory processes in the anterior chamber of the eye without damaging the cornea:
- uveitis;
- keratitis;
- iridocyclitis;
- blepharitis;
- allergic conjunctivitis, etc.

Side effects

Instructions for the use of Hydrocortisone
For emergencies, intravenous hydrocortisone is recommended.
The dose for adults starts from 100 ml to 450-500 ml and more, depending on the severity of the patient's condition. Prescribe up to 1500 mg / day.
IM for adults - 125-200 mg per day
Children - 15-30 mg per day, dividing the dose into several doses.
Intra-articular and periarticular, hydrocortisone is administered in suspension:
- adults 3-50 mg;
- children 25 mg - from 3 months. up to 1 year; 25-50 mg - from 1 to 6 years; 50-75 mg - from 6 to 14 years old.
Eye ointment Hydrocortisone is injected into the conjunctival sac 1, 2 or 3 times a day.
Ointment Hydrocortisone is applied in a thin layer to the skin no more than four times a day, the course of treatment is no more than three weeks.
According to the instructions for Hydrocortisone, the initial oral dose is 20-240 ml, followed by a decrease. But, with an exacerbation of multiple sclerosis, the dose can be increased to 800 mg per day, with a subsequent decrease.
