Human leukocyte interferon is a mixture containing various subtypes of natural interferon alpha from human blood leukocytes. It has immunomodulatory, antiviral, antitumor and antiproliferative effects.
Release form and composition
Available in the form of dry lyophinized powder in ampoules. One ampoule contains: human leukocyte interferon 1000 IU. One carton pack contains 5 or 10 ampoules.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, human leukocyte interferon is indicated for:
- Genital warts;
- Hepatitis B and C;
- Multiple myeloma;
- Kaposi's sarcoma in patients with AIDS (no history of acute infections);
- Non-Hodgkin lymphomas;
- Renal carcinoma;
- Fungal mycosis and malignant melanoma.
It is also used for the prevention and treatment of influenza and ARVI.
Contraindications
Human leukocyte interferon is contraindicated in:
- Dysfunction of the kidneys and liver;
- Severe heart disease;
- Liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis;
- Dysfunction of the central nervous system (epilepsy);
- Thyroid disease with resistance to conventional therapy;
- Hypersensitivity to Interferon alpha.
Method of administration and dosage
Duration of use, dose and frequency of administration is set depending on the severity of the disease and the patient's individual response.
During pregnancy, the use of human leukocyte interferon is permissible only if the potential positive effect for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the fetus. When used during lactation, you should stop breastfeeding.
In elderly patients, there may be side effects from the central nervous system. In case of side effects, a thorough examination is required.
Side effects
- From the side of the cardiovascular system: arrhythmia, arterial hypotension;
- From the side of the central nervous system: confusion, drowsiness;
- From the digestive tract: nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite;
- Others: myalgia, chills, headache, skin rash, erythema, granulocytopenia.
special instructions
Human leukocyte interferon should be taken with caution in patients who have recently had myocardial infarction.
In the initial stages of treatment, patients should receive hydration therapy.
It should be used with caution in conjunction with sedatives, hypnotics and opioid analgesics.
Patients with hepatitis C may have a dysfunction of the thyroid gland, which manifests itself in hyper- or hypothyroidism. Treatment of these patients should be initiated with an initial normal TSH level in the blood.

Analogs of human leukocyte interferon, according to the active substance, are: Alfaferon, Diaferon, Interlok, Inferon, Leukinferon, Lokferon, Sveferon, Egiferon.
Terms and conditions of storage
Store in a dry, dark place at a temperature of 2-10 ° C. Keep out of the reach of children.
Shelf life is 2 years.
