The active substance of Senadexin are anthraglycosides (sennosides A and B) of the leaves of the Senna narrow-leaved and holly-leaved plant, also known as Senna Alexandrian or Alexandrian leaf. The drug has a stimulating effect on the motility of the large intestine, irritating its receptors and
thereby enhancing peristalsis. It prevents the absorption of water from the intestine, which increases the laxative effect, affects the permeability of the intestinal wall for calcium ions. Promotes the synthesis of prostaglandins.
The laxative effect of taking the drug occurs 8-12 hours after administration, which must be taken into account when using Senadexin.
The drug is not addictive and does not disturb the digestive processes in the stomach and small intestine.
Release form and composition
The medicinal substance is produced in the form of tablets of a heterogeneous brown color, flavored with vanilla or chocolate.
Each tablet contains 0.07 g of senna leaf extract + excipients (corn starch, milk sugar, talc, magnesium stearate, stearic acid, nipagin, flavor). The package contains 10 tablets.

Indications for the use of Senadexin
In accordance with the instructions, Senadexin is indicated for acute and chronic constipation associated with atony of the large intestine and its weak peristalsis. The indication for the use of Senadexin is also the preparation of the patient for diagnostic studies or surgical interventions. In this case, this drug is prescribed in the evening, and an additional cleansing enema in the morning.
According to reviews of Senadexin, it helps prevent stagnation of feces with anal fissures, paraproctitis and hemorrhoids - in this case, its use for preventive purposes is justified.
Instructions for the use of Senadexin and doses
The tablets are taken at night with plenty of water. In accordance with the instructions, Senadexin is taken as needed, 1-2 tablets once, or in courses of 2-3 weeks. After three weeks of admission, you need to take a long break, at least 2 weeks.
Dosage:
For children over 12 years old and adults 1-2 tablets 1 time per day, before bedtime.
Children from 6 to 12 years old are prescribed ½-1 tablet once a day, children from one to 6 years old - 1/3 tablet. Senadexin is not prescribed for children under one year old.
Side effects
Reviews of Senadexin testify to it as a safe and well-tolerated drug. The undesirable consequences of taking it are rare, these include colicky cramps in the abdomen, flatulence, diarrhea.
More serious side effects are caused by an overdose of the drug, especially with prolonged use: electrolyte imbalance up to convulsions and collapse, hematuria (blood in the urine), albuminuria (protein in the urine), intestinal melanosis, damage to the intermuscular intestinal plexus. Chronic diarrhea, dehydration, and intestinal atony develop.
For this reason, the use of Senadexin as a weight loss product is strongly discouraged.
The drug disrupts the absorption of tetracyclines, which must be taken into account when concurrent antibiotic therapy.
The use of Senadexin during pregnancy
Despite the fact that there is no data on the undesirable effect of the drug during this period, it is undesirable to use Senadexin during pregnancy and during breastfeeding, like most drugs. However, under the supervision of a physician, the drug can be prescribed in case of postpartum intestinal atony.
Contraindications to the use of Senadexin
In accordance with the instructions, Senadexin is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to the drug;
- Acute inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (appendicitis, peritonitis, any other manifestations of an acute abdomen);
- Gastrointestinal bleeding;
- Intestinal obstruction of any etiology;
- Strangulated hernia;
- Violation of electrolyte metabolism, a state of dehydration;
- Uterine bleeding;
- Cystitis;
- Renal failure;
- Liver failure.
