Nazivin is a synthetic drug used locally in ENT practice for the treatment of acute respiratory diseases that are accompanied by rhinitis.
pharmachologic effect
The active substance of Nazivin drops produces a vasoconstrictor effect.
The drug reduces swelling of the inflamed nasal mucous membranes, restores nasal breathing, reduces the amount of secretions and prevents the development of bacterial complications, including sinusitis, sinusitis and otitis media. When used in therapeutic doses, the drug does not irritate mucous membranes and does not have a systemic effect.
Nazivin begins to act a few minutes after application, the duration of action is up to 12 hours. Drops are widely used in pediatrics, including newborns, however, during pregnancy, Nazivin is used only under strict indications.
Release form
Nazivin is available as clear nasal drops. 1 ml of drops contains 100 μg (in 5 ml dark vials with a pipette cap), 250 μg or 500 μg (in 10 ml dark vials with a pipette cap) oxymetazoline hydrochloride. Excipients - disodium edetate dihydrate, benzalkonium chloride 50% solution, sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hydroxide 1M solution, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate and purified water.
Also Nazivin is produced in the form of a nasal spray, 1 ml of the spray solution contains 500 μg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride, in a 10 ml polyethylene bottle with a spray.
Indications for Nazivin's use
According to the instructions, Nazivin is used to treat:
- Acute respiratory diseases accompanied by rhinitis;
- Vasomotor rhinitis;
- Allergic rhinitis.
Also drops Nazivin are used:
- To restore drainage in case of eustachitis, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and otitis media;
- To eliminate edema before diagnosis in the nasal passages.
Contraindications
Nazivin is contraindicated for use with:
- Atrophic rhinitis;
- Hypersensitivity to drug components;
- Angle-closure glaucoma.
Nazivin for infants and children under 6 years old is used in the dosage form of a 0.05% solution.
During lactation and pregnancy, Nazivin is used only under strict indications.
The drug is prescribed with caution at the same time:
- With MAO inhibitors and other drugs that increase blood pressure;
- With increased intraocular pressure;
- With diabetes mellitus and thyrotoxicosis;
- In severe forms of cardiovascular diseases, including arterial hypertension and angina pectoris.
Instructions for the use of Nazivin
Different dosage forms of the drug are used depending on age. For all age groups, Nazivin drops are used 2-3 times a day, the recommended course is 3-5 days.
Children's Nazivin is considered to be drops containing 0.01% and 0.025% solution.
Nazivin for infants under one year old is used in the form of a 0.01% solution:
- For newborns up to a month, one drop is injected into each nostril;
- From month to year - 1-2 drops of Nazivin.
For the accuracy of the dosage of Nazivin for babies, the bottle with a 0.01% solution has a graduated pipette.
Children 1-6 years old use children's Nazivin 0.25% 1-2 drops.
It is also effective, depending on the age, to apply children's Nazivin to cotton turundas and to clear the nasal passages.
Adults and children over 6 years of age are prescribed 1-2 drops of a 0.05% solution.
When using Navisin during pregnancy, the recommended dose should not be exceeded.
Side effects
According to the instructions, Nazivin is usually well tolerated. In rare cases, the drug can cause:
- Sneezing, dryness, or burning sensation in the nasal mucosa;
- Insomnia, anxiety, tiredness, or headache;
- Nausea.
With prolonged use without interruptions, drops of Nazivin according to the instructions can lead to recurrent edema of the mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, atrophy or tachyphylaxis.
It should be borne in mind that the simultaneous use of Nazivin with other vasoconstrictor drugs increases the risk of side effects.
In case of an overdose, Nazivin, according to the instructions, can cause:
- Increased body temperature;
- Constriction of the pupils;
- Tachycardia;
- Collapse;
- Pulmonary edema;
- Nausea and vomiting;
- Cyanosis;
- Suppression of cardiac activity;
- Arrhythmia;
- Arterial hypertension;
- Breathing disorders.
Also, an overdose can cause mental disturbances, bradycardia, respiratory arrest, arterial hypotension.
