Vixipin is an ophthalmic drug with antiaggregatory and antihypoxic action.

Release form and composition

Vixipin is released in the form of eye drops: a transparent or almost transparent, colorless or slightly colored solution.

Three forms of release of the drug allow you to choose the most convenient option for use for each patient:

  • Uni: innovative unidose packaging (sterile polyethylene packaging of one dose of the drug that does not contain preservatives): in a cardboard box 2, 4 or 6 bags of filtered film containing a dropper tube made of polypropylene or low density polyethylene, 0.5 ml each;
  • delta: multi-dose in a vial made of polyethylene terephthalate with a dropper; 1 bottle of 10 ml in a foil bag;
  • ultra: multi-dose in a glass bottle equipped with a special flight finger rest; in a cardboard box 1 glass bottle with / without a 5 ml finger-rest.

Each pack also contains instructions for the use of Vixipin.

Composition of 1 ml drops:

  • active substance: methylethylpyridinol hydrochloride - 10 mg;
  • auxiliary components: sodium hyaluronate - 1.8 mg; hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin (HPBCD) 20 mg; potassium dihydrogen phosphate - 10.8 mg; sodium benzoate - 2 mg; disodium edetate dihydrate (Trilon B) - 0.2 mg; sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate - 0.36 mg; phosphoric acid solution 2M - up to pH 4–5; water for injection - up to 1 ml.

Pharmacodynamics

Methylethylpyridinol - the active substance of Vixipin, is an angioprotector, provides the following effects of the drug:

  • decreased capillary permeability;
  • strengthening of the vascular wall;
  • stabilization of the cell membrane;
  • inhibition of platelet aggregation;
  • decrease in blood clotting and viscosity;
  • antiaggregatory and antihypoxic action.

The action of some auxiliary components:

  • hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate): moisturizes the cornea, eliminates discomfort, improves drug tolerance;
  • cyclodextrin: increases bioavailability; reduces local irritation; potentiates the action of active ingredients.

Pharmacokinetics

Methylethylpyridinol penetrates into the eye tissue quickly, where it is deposited and metabolized. The concentration in the tissues of the eye is higher than in the blood plasma.

Five metabolites have been identified, which are represented by conjugated and dealkylated products of its biotransformation.

Metabolism occurs in the liver, excretion of metabolites is carried out by the kidneys. The average level of binding to blood plasma proteins is 42%.

Indications for use

  • inflammation and burns of the cornea (therapy and prevention);
  • hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye (therapy);
  • hemorrhages in the sclera in elderly patients (therapy and prevention);
  • complications of myopia (therapy);
  • diabetic retinopathy;
  • thrombosis of the central retinal vein and its branches.

Contraindications

  • age up to 18 years;
  • pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Vixipin, instructions for use: method and dosage

Vixipin eye drops are intended for instillation into the conjunctival cavity.

Dosage regimen: 2-3 times a day, 1-2 drops.

The duration of use usually ranges from 3 to 30 days and is determined individually, depending on the course of the disease. With good tolerance and indications, the duration of the course can be increased to 6 months, or therapy can be repeated 2-3 times a year.

Side effects

Depending on tolerance, patients during the use of Vixipin may experience such disorders as local allergic reactions, itching, burning sensation, short-term conjunctival hyperemia.
