1000 mg of cream contains:
- active substance: acyclovir - 50 mg;
- auxiliary components: purified water, sodium lauryl sulfate, liquid paraffin, dimethicone, propylene glycol, cetomacrogol, white soft paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, chlorocresol, disodium edetate.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Acyclovir is one of the antiviral agents, synthetic analogues of acyclic purine nucleoside with a high selective effect on herpes viruses.
The substance is active against cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus of the first and second types, Epstein Barr virus and chickenpox virus. Through a series of sequential reactions, the thymidine kinase of cells infected with the virus actively converts acyclovir into acyclovir mono-, di- and triphosphate. The latter interacts with the viral polymerase of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and is incorporated into the DNA synthesized for new viruses. Due to this, defective viral DNA is formed, which leads to the suppression of replication of new generations of viruses.
Pharmacokinetics
Acyclovir, when applied topically through damaged skin areas, is practically not absorbed, it does not enter the systemic circulation.
Indications for use
- shingles;
- infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the herpes simplex virus of the first and second types;
- chicken pox;
- genital herpes.
Contraindications
Acigerpine is not prescribed to patients with established hypersensitivity to the components that make up it.
The use of the drug requires special care and careful medical supervision in the presence of the following conditions / diseases:
- renal failure;
- dehydration;
- children under 12 years of age;
- pregnancy;
- lactation period.
Acigerpine, instructions for use: method and dosage
Acigerpin cream is intended for topical and external use.
A single dose of the drug is applied in a thin layer to the affected and adjacent skin areas with a cotton swab or with clean hands (to avoid additional infection of the affected areas) every 4 hours, 5 times a day.
The treatment is continued until a crust appears on the bubbles, or they completely heal. The course duration on average varies from 5 to 10 days (no more).
Side effects
During therapy with Acigerpine, it is possible to develop allergic dermatitis, vulvitis, skin rash, hyperemia, allergic reactions, itching, burning, pain and swelling at the site of application, peeling and dryness of the skin, and if it gets on the mucous membranes - inflammation.
Overdose
Possible symptoms: if accidentally swallowed, neurological disorders, diarrhea, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, headache, renal impairment, convulsions, lethargy, coma.
Therapy: maintenance of vital functions, hemodialysis.
special instructions
In order to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect, it is important to start using the cream as early as possible after the onset of the infection (when the first manifestations of pathology appear - redness, a feeling of tension, tingling, itching and burning).
Acigerpine should not be applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes, as this can cause severe local inflammation. During the treatment of genital herpes, patients should refrain from sexual intercourse or use condoms, since acyclovir does not prevent transmission of the virus.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
The use of the cream does not affect a person's ability to drive vehicles and work with complex mechanisms.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The safety profile of Acigerpine during pregnancy has not been investigated using adequate and well-controlled clinical trials. Prescribing a cream is possible only in cases where the predicted therapeutic effect for the mother is higher than the possible risks for the fetus.
During the period of use of the drug, the question of stopping breastfeeding should be resolved.
Pediatric use
Acigerpine cream is contraindicated in children under the age of 12 years.
