pharmachologic effect
Askofen is a combined drug that has analgesic and antipyretic effects.
One Ascofen tablet contains 0.2 g of acetylsalicylic acid and phenacetin, as well as 0.04 g of caffeine. Acetylsalicylic acid inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are responsible for the appearance of pain and edema at the site of inflammation, inhibits thrombus formation and platelet aggregation. Thanks to this component, the use of Askofen allows you to relieve pain, in particular, caused by inflammatory processes, improve microcirculation in the focus of inflammation.
Phenacetin enhances the antipyretic and analgesic properties of acetylsalicylic acid. Caffeine, which is part of Askofen, affects the reflex excitability of the spinal cord, stimulates the vasomotor and respiratory centers, reduces platelet aggregation and dilates blood vessels. Also, caffeine can increase physical and mental performance, reduce fatigue and drowsiness, normalize the tone of the cerebral vessels and accelerate blood flow.
In Askofen P, phenacetin was replaced by paracetamol (0.2 g), which caused the anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties of this drug. The advantage of this component is that the probability of methemoglobin formation when using it is minimal.
Indications for use of Askofen
This drug is recommended for headaches, colds, neuralgia. It should be noted that the use of Askofen is increasingly replacing the use of Askofen P and Askofen L, which is due to the greater safety of paracetamol in comparison with phenacetin, as well as a more effective combination of the components that make up these drugs.
Askofen P is prescribed for:
- moderately severe pain syndrome (toothache, migraine, headache, arthralgia, neuralgia, painful menstruation);
- feverish conditions caused by rheumatic and colds.

The course of treatment with Askofen P usually lasts 5-7 days. To relieve acute pain, take 2 tablets once.
