Latin name: Arthron Complex
ATX code: M01BX
Active ingredient: glucosamine + chondroitin sulfate (glucosamine + chondroitin sulfate)
Manufacturer: Unipharm Inc. (Unipharm Inc.) (USA)
Description and photo update: 2019-19-08
Artron Complex is a combined preparation with a pronounced chondroprotective effect, aimed at stimulating the processes of regeneration and slowing down the processes of degeneration of cartilage tissue.
Release form and composition
The drug is available in the form of film-coated tablets.
Active substances of the drug Artron Complex:
- Chondroitin sulfate - 500 mg;
- Glucosamine hydrochloride - 500 mg
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Artron Complex is a combined preparation with chondroprotective efficacy. Its action is aimed at stimulating the regenerative processes in the cartilaginous tissue, as a result of which the mobility of the articular surfaces improves, the range of motion in the damaged joints increases, the pain syndrome decreases in various diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
The drug slows down the processes of degeneration in the joint and bone tissue, stimulates the production and synthesis of intra-articular fluid, prevents the development and progression of osteoporosis, has a positive effect on the tissue structure of the joint.
In patients receiving non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Artron Complex slows down metabolic changes and damage in cartilage tissue.
The mechanism of action of active substances is explained by their ability to stimulate the synthesis of type 2 collagen and proteoglycans. Glucosamine hydrochloride has anti-inflammatory effects. Chondroitin sulfate normalizes the mineralization of the bone system, after bone fractures improves the course of recovery processes.
Pharmacokinetics
The maximum concentration of chondroitin sulfate after a single dose of 500 mg is observed after 3-4 hours in the blood, after 4-5 hours in the synovial fluid. Plasma concentration is lower than in synovial fluid. Bioavailability is 13-15%. Metabolites are excreted mainly through the renal system within 24 hours after administration.
The bioavailability of glucosamine hydrochloride is 25–26%. The substance is well distributed in the tissues of the body, reaching the highest concentrations in the cartilage tissue, the renal system and the liver.
Due to the metabolism of the drug, water, urea and carbon dioxide are formed. Approximately 30% of the dose taken persists for a long time in the connective tissue. It is excreted in its original form through the kidneys with urine, partly through the intestines with feces.
Indications for use
- Osteochondrosis, osteoarthritis, spondyloarthrosis and other diseases of the joints and bones of a degenerative nature;
- Osteopathy, chondropathy, periodontopathy;
- Elimination of severe pain in the elderly and athletes with joint damage;
- Cartilage restoration;
- Conditions after operations on the musculoskeletal system and after bone fracture.
Thanks to the glucosamine included in its composition, Artron Complex helps to restore the surface of cartilage and stimulates the synthesis of aminoglycans. Glucosamine enhances the action of chondroitin sulfate, aimed at normalizing the production of intra-articular fluid, reducing pain in the joints, and improving their mobility.
Contraindications
- diabetes;
- thrombophlebitis;
- bleeding tendency;
- phenylketonuria;
- liver / kidney disease in the stage of decompensation;
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Instructions for use of Artron Complex: method and dosage
Artron Complex tablets should be taken whole, without crushing or chewing, with a sufficient amount of water. The dosage regimen and duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually for each patient.
The recommended course of treatment is 3 months, the recommended dose for adults is 1 tablet 1-3 times a day. If the required therapeutic effect has been achieved, the drug is taken 1 time per day, 1 tablet.
Side effects
- from the gastrointestinal tract: dyspepsia, nausea / vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence;
- from the nervous system: dizziness, headache, insomnia, drowsiness, general weakness, increased fatigue;
- from the immune system: hypersensitivity reactions, including skin rash, urticaria, erythema, itching, dermatitis, maculopapular rash, edema (including Quincke's edema);
- other reactions: visual disturbances, hair loss, general weakness, swelling.
Overdose
In case of overdose, there were no signs of intoxication and the development of clinical symptoms.
special instructions
Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
One of the components of the Arthron Complex - glucosamine - is extracted from the shell of shellfish, and therefore patients with shellfish allergy should take this drug with caution.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
Special studies on the effect of Artron Complex on the ability to drive vehicles or other potentially dangerous machinery have not been conducted. But when performing types of work that require concentration of attention and speed of reactions, it is necessary to take into account possible side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and visual disturbances.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
According to the instructions, Artron Complex is contraindicated during pregnancy. If therapy is required during lactation, breastfeeding is recommended to be discontinued.
Pediatric use
Due to the lack of data on the safety of the drug in pediatrics, Artron Complex is not recommended for children and adolescents under 15 years of age.
With impaired renal function
Chondroprotective agent is contraindicated for use in patients with concomitant severe impairment of renal function.
For violations of liver function
It is contraindicated to use Artron Complex tablets in patients with concomitant severe hepatic impairment.
Drug interactions
With the simultaneous use of Artron Complex can reduce the absorption of penicillin and chloramphenicol.
The opposite effect is observed with the combined use of tetracycline or tetracycline antibiotics.
The effect of Artron Complex can be enhanced by vitamin-mineral complexes.
The drug enhances the effect of glucocorticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, therefore, with their combined use, dose adjustment is required.
Analogs
The analogues of Artron Complex are Chondroxide, Mucosat, Chondroitin Complex, Structum, etc.
Storage conditions and periods
Store in a dry, dark place at an air temperature of 15-30 ° C.
The shelf life is 3 years.
