Ammonia is a locally irritating antiseptic, disinfectant, analeptic drug that stimulates the respiratory center of action.
Release form and composition
Dosage form of Ammonia - solution for local / external use and inhalation 10%: transparent, colorless, volatile liquid with a pungent characteristic odor (in ampoules, cans, vials and dark glass bottles, dropper bottles and dark glass dropper bottles: 10 each, 25, 40, 50 or 100 ml; 3, 5, 9, 10, 15, 18 or 20 kg in cans and bottles; other types of packaging are possible).

- Active ingredient: aqueous ammonia - 440 ml;
- Auxiliary components: purified water - up to 1000 ml.
Indications for use
Ammonia is indicated for use as an emergency aid for fainting, alcohol poisoning, intoxication with other poisonous substances. In surgery, the solution is used to wash hands for the purpose of disinfecting them, as well as for snake and insect bites to neutralize acidic toxins.
Contraindications
- Dermatitis, eczema, other skin diseases (topical application);
- Hypersensitivity.
Method of administration and dosage
- Excitation of respiration and removal of patients from fainting (inhalation) - a piece of cotton wool moistened with Ammonia is carefully brought to the patient's nasal openings at a distance of no closer than 0.5-1 cm;
- Stimulation of emetic action (inside) - 5-10 drops per 100 ml of water;
- Disinfection (hand washing) - 25 ml of ammonia per 5 liters of boiled warm water;
- Snake and insect bites (externally) - in the form of lotions.
Side effects
Due to the inhalation of high concentrations of ammonia, it is possible: sore throat, increased secretion of the salivary glands (hypersalivation), hyperemia of the oral mucosa, reflex respiratory arrest.
Ingestion of the undiluted solution causes burns to the esophagus and stomach.
