According to the clinical and pharmacological group, Aldar 5% cream belongs to local immunomodulators.
general information
The active substance of Aldara - imichimod - is an immune response factor, an inducer of endogenous interferon synthesis. Thus, the substance does not have direct antiviral activity, but is its modifier, that is, it induces the production of cytokines, in particular alpha-interferon and other tumor necrosis factors.
Instructions for use
According to the instructions, Aldara cream is used in the treatment of patients with papillomas (human papillomavirus infection), genital warts (genital or genital warts), molluscum contagiosum, and basal cell carcinoma (basalioma). In addition, it is effective for skin regeneration in patients with actinic (senile) keratosis.
Each pack of Aldara consists of 12 sachets of 250 mg each; each sachet contains 12.5 mg of imiquimod.
Aldara is used externally. It is applied to the cleansed affected surface and rubbed in with gentle movements until completely absorbed. Since the drug has a low absorption through the skin, overdose is not observed. At the same time, the use of Aldara inside is strictly prohibited.
Aldara should be applied in a thin layer, once a day, three times a week - every other day, preferably at night. Applying a cream under the bandage is not recommended.
Those 8-10 hours that the drug is supposed to be on the affected area should not take a shower or a bath. After this time, Aldar should be washed off with warm water and soap.
Aldara is applied until the visible symptoms of the disease disappear, while the course of treatment should not exceed four months.
Reviews and application features
According to numerous reviews, Aldara cream is effective in more than 90 percent of cases, either promoting a complete recovery, or significantly improving the well-being of patients.
Despite the fact that the interaction of Aldara with other drugs has not been studied, the low absorption of imiquimod through the skin makes it possible to combine it with other systemic drugs.
When prescribing Aldara to pregnant women, it is necessary to weigh the potential harm and benefits of the drug. If it is necessary to treat women with cream during lactation, breastfeeding will need to be stopped.
When using Aldara, various side reactions may occur - local inflammatory processes in the area of application of the cream, as well as some systemic manifestations from the nervous, digestive and other systems. In the presence of skin reactions, the cream must be washed off and the treatment resumed after the relief of reactive manifestations. If you have systemic reactions to Aldara, you will need to discuss the situation with your doctor.
Due to the lack of data on the use of Aldara in children under eighteen years of age, childhood is a contraindication for the use of the drug. Also, it should not be used in the treatment of patients with individual intolerance to the main and auxiliary components or in violation of the integrity of the skin in the treatment area.
When applying Aldara, avoid contact with healthy skin and mucous membranes; in case of such contact, the cream should be washed off with soap and water. The opened sachet is designed for a single use and cannot be stored. After applying Aldara, hands should be thoroughly washed with soap.
When treating with Aldara, it will be necessary to exclude exposure to the sun as much as possible due to the increased risk of sunburn.
