Calvados
Calvados is an alcoholic drink originally from France. It is obtained by the method of single or double distillation of apple cider. In the process of processing this light drink (in cider, on average, it contains 5% alcohol), a calvados similar to cognac is obtained, the strength of which is 40%.
Basically, calvados is an apple brandy that, like most alcoholic beverages born in France, has the same name as the territory in which it is produced. The birthplace of Calvados is one of the departments of Normandy, famous for its apple orchards. For the production of the drink, more than 30 varieties of apples are used, and not simple, but elite, grown specifically for the production of raw materials for Calvados.
The longer the calvados is aged, the tastier and more aromatic it is. The minimum is considered to be two years of aging of the drink in oak barrels, but, according to the technology, apple brandy can be aged for 3, 4, 6, 12, 15 years. There are also "vintage" drinks that are more than 50 years old.
For culinary purposes, one-year or two-year-old apple brandy is used, or generally unseasoned. Cocktails, flambés and other desserts are prepared with Calvados.
Calvados has a caloric value of 256 calories.
Useful properties of Calvados
In addition to the fact that apple brandy brings real aesthetic pleasure and is able to satisfy the highest demands of gourmets, it stimulates the work of the gastrointestinal tract, improves appetite. For this reason, the minimum aging drink is recommended as an aperitif.
A more respectable age, Calvados is the best suited for relieving stress after a hard day, decorating a leisurely conversation, using it as a digestif - a drink that is consumed during a meal to improve digestion.
They drink Calvados in small sips, slowly, slightly warming up a glass with a drink in their hands - this way its aroma is better manifested.
There is no need to talk about other useful qualities of apple brandy, which, however, does not prevent Calvados from being one of the most famous and demanded alcoholic drinks in the world.
