Lamination of hair
Hair lamination is a cosmetic procedure aimed at improving the appearance of hair. The accent should be made on the word "cosmetic", since many people mistakenly believe that through lamination it is possible to restore the structure of the hair, but this is not the case.
What is hair lamination?
Lamination is the treatment of hair with a special solution followed by heating.
The result of the procedure - a protective film appears on the hair, making it thicker by increasing the thickness of each hair.
Hair lamination products often include wheat grain protein, an antioxidant, nourishing and moisturizing agent.
Extracts of hops, chamomile, and yarrow can be included as additional substances in the composition of cosmetics for hair lamination.
Lamination is suitable for any type of hair, except those that are naturally thick and heavy, for example, like the representatives of the Asian race. This is explained by the fact that on such hair the effect of lamination may not be noticeable.
Reviews about lamination of hair suggest that most often those who have split hair, too dry, not lush and thick enough by nature, resort to it.
How to care for hair after lamination
The first day after lamination, the hair should not be subjected to mechanical stress - it is undesirable to use hairpins and tight elastic bands, to collect hair in a bun.
Some salons do not recommend washing your hair for several days after lamination.
Otherwise, hair care can be left the same, the only thing is that you cannot use heat straighteners, aggressive shampoos and scrubs.
Benefits of hair lamination
Thanks to lamination, the hair looks more well-groomed, voluminous and healthy, and becomes more manageable.
Also, lamination protects hair from the negative effects of ultraviolet radiation, dry air, hard tap water.
Reviews of hair lamination indicate that the effect of the procedure lasts, on average, for a month.
Even dyed hair can be laminated to keep its color longer.
The lamination result is noticeable in most cases immediately after the first session. Several lamination procedures in a row are necessary for those women whose hair is very split or very thin.
Cons of hair lamination
Despite the assurances of the masters who carry out hair lamination in the salon, the manufacturers of the means for the procedure, that it is absolutely harmless, trichologists say about the following disadvantages of hair lamination:
- The procedure can cause hair loss as the follicles do not always support the new weight of the hair;
- As the lamination wears off, the hair scales break down, leaving them dry and brittle.
In addition, not everyone knows that hair that is too weakened should be treated with lamination products. To do this, you can consult a trichologist, or independently nourish your hair using homemade masks.
Can I do hair lamination at home?
If we talk about professional hair lamination products, then it is better to entrust their intended use to qualified specialists. In this case, it is better to prefer lamination of hair in the salon to home lamination, because at home it will be difficult to maintain the correct temperature regime in order to obtain the desired effect.
But those who do not have the opportunity to visit a lamination specialist can try lamination at home using a mixture of gelatin and hair mask. Those who have experienced the procedure on themselves say that the result of such lamination can last an average of two weeks.
We offer such a recipe for a mixture for home lamination: a tablespoon of gelatin, 1-2 tablespoons of a hair mask - any that suits the hair, 3 tablespoons of water.
Dissolve gelatin in hot water, leave for 15 minutes to swell. After that, the gelatin must be stirred and heated so that there are no lumps, add a hair mask to it. The result should be a mixture similar to sour cream in consistency.
Before lamination of hair at home, the head is washed and dried with a towel. After that, the prepared mixture is applied to the head for 40 minutes, a polyethylene hat is put on top, and covered with a towel. Hair can be heated through a towel with a hairdryer.
After 40 minutes, the mask must be washed off with cool water.
Before deciding on hair lamination, it is still advisable to consult a trichologist, and be sure to find an experienced specialist for the procedure, about which there are good reviews.
