Formidron is an antiseptic made on the basis of Formaldehyde, which is its main active ingredient.
Pharmacological action of Formidron
The drug has a deodorant and antiseptic effect. Formaldehyde, which is part of Formidron, has the ability to coagulate (fold, destroy the structure) of protein molecules. Due to this, the drug has a detrimental effect on bacteria living on the skin. These bacteria decompose the secretion of the sweat glands, and as a result, the unpleasant smell of sweat is produced. In addition, Formidron has a tanning effect, which helps to close the ducts of the sweat glands and their atrophy.
Formidron application
The drug is intended for external use only. A small amount of liquid is applied once a day to areas of the skin with increased sweating. With severe sweating, Formidron can be used twice a day.
Formidron should be applied to clean and dried skin of the feet for half an hour, after which the rest of the drug is washed off under running water. On more sensitive and delicate skin (women's palms, armpits), the drug solution is applied for no more than twenty minutes, after which the skin is washed with warm running water, dried and powdered with talcum powder. After shaving the armpits, you can use Formidron no earlier than 24 hours later.
In the instructions for Formidron, it is noted that this drug is quite toxic and therefore, before using it, it is necessary to consult a dermatologist in order to avoid the development of negative consequences.
According to reviews, Formidron is a fairly effective drug. One treatment is usually enough to reduce skin sweating for one to two weeks. With very severe sweating, Formidron can be applied for two to three days in a row.
Side effects of Formidron
According to reviews, Formidron often leads to skin irritation in the area of its application and local allergic reactions (redness, itching, burning, rash).
Contraindications
According to the instructions, Formidron cannot be used for inflammatory skin diseases. The drug should also not be applied to the skin of the face.
The use of Formidron is undesirable during pregnancy and lactation. This is due to the high toxicity of the drug.
The drug is also contraindicated for use in pediatric practice.
Overdose of Formidron
To date, no cases of Formidron overdose have been reported when used correctly.
Composition and form of release
Formidron contains 10 parts of Formaldehyde, 39.5 parts of ethyl alcohol 95%, 50 parts of water and 0.5 parts of cologne. Available in dark glass vials with a capacity of 50.0 and 100.0 ml.
