Erius is an antiallergic drug, a blocker of histamine H1 receptors.
The drug is presented in the form of round tablets covered with a blue shell and a transparent orange syrup.
Erius's active ingredient is desloratadine. Auxiliary components of tablets - microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, corn starch, talc.
Excipients of the syrup Erius – sorbitol, propylene glycol, anhydrous citric acid, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate dihydrate, disodium edetate, flavor No. 15864, sucrose, dye, purified water.

Erius is an antihistamine - a drug that blocks histamine receptors in the body, which leads to inhibition of allergic reactions. The active substance of Erius selectively acts on neurotransmitters that affect the blistering-hyperemic reaction of the skin, itching, etc., without penetrating the blood-brain barrier. Studies have proven that the use of Erius is able to suppress the following body reactions:
- The production of pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines;
- Eosinophilic granulocyte adhesion and chemotaxis;
- IgE-dependent release of histamine, prostaglandin D2 and leukotriene C4;
- Increasing the adhesiveness of P-selectin;
- Development of acute bronchospasm atopic nature (in experiments with animals).
The drug has antipruritic, anti-allergic and anti-exudative actions, preventing the appearance and facilitating the course of allergic reactions. Erius effectively relieves smooth muscle spasms and prevents tissue edema.
Reviews to Erius do not note the appearance of a pronounced sedative (calming) effect. In addition, clinical studies have shown that taking Erius at a dosage of 20 mg / day for 2 weeks does not have a significant effect on the functioning of the cardiovascular system. Unlike other antihistamines, the effectiveness of Erius is not affected by the consumption of fatty foods or grapefruit juice.
Indications for the use of Erius
According to the instructions, Erius is effective against diseases such as:
- Allergic rhinitis (including intermittent and persistent);

Contraindications
The use of Erius is undesirable for persons with hypersensitivity to desloratadine and other components that make up the drug. In addition, it is not recommended to take Erius in case of congenital fructose intolerance, the presence of diseases associated with malabsorption of galactose or glucose - due to the presence of these substances in the Erius syrup.
At the moment, the safety profile of Erius for pregnant women has not been established, therefore, taking the drug by women expecting a baby is not recommended. It was clinically found that the active substance of the drug penetrates into breast milk, therefore, breastfeeding while taking Erius must be stopped.
Erius should be used with caution in patients suffering from severe renal failure.
Side effects of Erius
Side effects of Erius and analogues of the drug include increased fatigue, dry mouth, headache, tachycardia, allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock, rash), hepatitis, increased activity of liver enzymes, increased bilirubin in the blood. In responses to Erius when taking the drug by children under 2 years of age, there were cases of insomnia, diarrhea and chills.
Method of using Erius
The optimal dosage of Erius according to the instructions for adults and adolescents from 12 years old is 5 mg per day. It is not recommended to break the tablet, the drug is taken whole with a small amount of liquid. Dosage for children from 2-5 years old: 2.5 ml of syrup, for children from 6-11 years old: 5 ml of syrup.
Overdose
In case of exceeding the dosage of the drug, it is recommended to carry out standard measures to remove desloratadine from the gastrointestinal tract (intake of activated carbon, gastric lavage) and to carry out symptomatic therapy. The drug is not excreted by hemodialysis. According to a study by specialists, an overdose of the drug by 9 times does not have a serious negative effect on the body.
