Emoxy optician is an antioxidant drug used in ophthalmology, which has an angioprotective effect and improves microcirculation.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of eye drops: slightly colored or colorless, slightly opalescent [5 or 10 ml in a glass bottle or in a plastic bottle with a dispenser nozzle, 1 glass bottle with a dropper cap (or without it) or 1 plastic bottle with a dispenser in a cardboard pack].
1 ml drops contain:
- active substance: methylethylpyridinol hydrochloride (emoxipin) - 10 mg;
- additional components: potassium dihydrogen phosphate (monosubstituted potassium phosphate), methylcellulose, sodium benzoate, sodium sulfite (sodium sulfite anhydrous), sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (sodium phosphate disubstituted 12-aqueous), water for injection.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Emoxy optician is a drug, the action of which is based on the suppression of lipid peroxidation of cell membranes (antioxidant effect). Methylethylpyridinol hydrochloride, the active substance of the drug, also has properties such as antiaggregatory (prevents platelets from sticking together), angioprotective (enhances vascular resistance) and antihypoxic (increases tissue resistance to oxygen deficiency).
The drug helps to reduce capillary permeability and strengthen the vascular wall (angioprotective effect), reduce blood viscosity and platelet aggregation (antiplatelet effect). As an inhibitor of free radical processes, it demonstrates a membrane stabilizing effect. Due to its retinoprotective properties, the active substance protects eye tissues, including the retina, from the aggressive, destructive effects of high intensity light. Methylethylpyridinol hydrochloride reduces blood clotting, improves microcirculation of the eye and resolves intraocular hemorrhage. The drug also activates the course of reparative processes in the cornea (including the early postoperative and post-wound period).
Pharmacokinetics
The active substance is characterized by rapid penetration into tissues and organs, where its accumulation and metabolic transformation take place. The concentration of the drug in the blood is lower than in the tissues of the eye.
In the course of the research, 5 metabolites of emoxipin were identified, which are conjugated and dealkylated products of its transformation. The metabolites are excreted by the kidneys. In the liver tissue, 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine phosphate is found in large quantities.
