Hellebore

Chemeritsa is a perennial herb with a short and thick rhizome and a mass of cord-like roots. There are two main varieties of the plant: black hellebore and Lobel's hellebore. The plant blooms almost all summer: Lobel's hellebore - with small yellow-green or white flowers, and the black hellebore - black-purple. The fruits of hellebore are multi-seeded, small, yellowish-brown. The hellebore can reach 170 cm in height. Most often, hellebore is found in the Caucasus, in the mountains of Transbaikalia, Western Siberia and in the eastern states.

Other names for hellebore are the following folk expressions:

  • Puppeteer;
  • Chemerka;
  • Chermis;
  • Hellebore root.

Often, in everyday life you can find such a name for this medicinal plant as cheremitsa. Once upon a time people, passing the name from mouth to mouth, accidentally mixed up the letters, and this is where this expression came from.

Composition and useful properties of hellebore

In the case of using hellebore for treatment, its roots are used. It is this part of the plant that is endowed with special properties. So, in the roots of hellebore contains about 2.5% of alkaloids. It is these substances that determine the strong therapeutic effect of this plant.

Among all alkaloids present in hellebore, the main positive effect on the body is provided by amino alcohols (amino alcohol). Hellebore alkaloids are able to lower blood pressure, and then, at the same time, there is a significant slowdown in the work of the heart, sensitive nerve endings are excited, sneezing and coughing are provoked.

In addition to alkaloids, the possibility of using hellebore for the treatment of many diseases ensures the presence of tannins, ash and resins in it, as well as the presence of a large amount of micro- and macroelements.

The list of trace elements in the hellebore:

  • Potassium;
  • Calcium;
  • Magnesium;
  • Iron.

The use of hellebore for treatment

The collection of hellebore roots is carried out in the fall. The resulting raw materials are washed from the ground, then dried in the fresh air, under awnings. Before drying, the roots are crushed to a powdery mass. Since the hellebore is poisonous, care must be taken when harvesting (put on a mask on your face, tie your face with gauze). It turns out that dust from the roots of hellebore can cause severe irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes and nasopharynx, and this can lead to prolonged sneezing. As a result of these processes, nosebleeds may occur. Raw materials are stored for no more than 3 years, in rooms isolated from food, the place should be dry and well ventilated.

The use of hellebore has long been due to its powerful antiparasitic properties. In addition, this plant is endowed with several other medicinal effects:

  • Pain reliever (analgesic);
  • Antimycotic (antifungal);
  • Annoying;
  • Excitation of the nervous system;
  • Dilation of blood vessels;
  • Increased skeletal muscle tone.

The analgesic and irritating effects of hellebore are used for treatment for the following diseases:

  • Gout;
  • Arthritis;
  • Neuralgia;
  • Muscle pain;
  • Radiculitis;
  • Diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The main dosage forms with which the hellebore is treated are the following:

  • Ointment;
  • Broth;
  • Alcohol tincture;
  • Water-based tincture.

The famous Chemerichnaya water is a widespread medicine. It is prepared on a water basis, using rhizomes and roots of hellebore Lobel. Also, an alcoholic extract of the plant is often used in medicine.

Most often, such a remedy is used to destroy parasites that live on the human body. The most important rule for using hellebore in the treatment of any disease is exclusively external use. That is, any medicine from hellebore should be applied only to the skin.

So, hellebore tincture is prescribed for the treatment of the following diseases:

  • Pediculosis (lice, fleas);
  • Seborrhea;
  • Eczema;
  • Scabies mite;
  • Dandruff;
  • Rheumatism;
  • Arthritis;
  • Neuralgia.

The most common option for prescribing such a medicine is head lice on the head and pubis.

Along with the treatment of these diseases, hellebore from alcoholism is also widely used in practice. Traditional medicine, however, does not approve of this method. Scientists believe that a poisonous plant fundamentally cannot help in the treatment of this ailment. Nevertheless, traditional medicine is actively using this remedy. So, to get rid of alcoholism with the help of hellebore, a vodka tincture is prepared. The proportion is 10 g of plant roots per 100 g of vodka. This tincture should be kept in a dark and cool place for 10 days. After the specified period, the alcoholic starts gradually, starting with 1 - 2 drops, add the medicine to food. Every day, the amount of tincture is increased. An alcoholic has unpleasant symptoms such as nausea, dizziness and vomiting. Thus, according to traditional healers,the patient has an association of such a state of health with the alcohol he has drunk. It is assumed that in this regard, the alcoholic will stop drinking, as he will be very ill. This is the basis of the mechanism of treatment with hellebore from alcoholism.

Instead of an alcoholic tincture of hellebore from alcoholism, you can also use a decoction. But then such a medicine from hellebore for alcoholism should be stored in the cold, and no more than 2 days, and then a new broth should be prepared.

So, in case of an overdose in the treatment of hellebore for alcoholism, the most harmless symptoms of poisoning will be diarrhea and vomiting. If the dose of the drunk medicine from the hellebore from alcoholism is too large, a fatal outcome is possible.

Why is traditional medicine against the use of hellebore from alcoholism? The answer is obvious: this drug provides for only external use, but not oral (inside). Scientific studies have shown that the use of hellebore by humans inside can lead to severe poisoning.
