Composition and form of release of Cefazolin

Cefazolin is available in powder form for preparing a solution for intramuscular or intravenous administration (vials of 0.5, 1 and 2 g). Cefazolin sodium salt is an active component of an antibiotic (500, 1000, 2000 mg, respectively, in one bottle).

pharmachologic effect

Cefazolin is the least toxic cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of bactericidal action.

According to the instructions, Cefazolin is active against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp., Synthesizing and not synthesizing penicillinase, Streptococcus spp., Including Corinebacterium dlphtheriae, pneumococci), gram-negative microorganisms (Proteus mirabilis, Salmonacherisia spp., Enter gonorrhoeae, Shiqella spp, Klebsiella spp., Haemopnylus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae). Fungi, rickettsia, protozoa, viruses, indole-positive strains of proteus (P.rettgeri, P.vulgaris, P. morgani) are resistant to the action of the drug.

The maximum concentration of the drug is reached one hour after intramuscular administration and instantly after intravenous administration. According to the instructions, Cefazolin at a therapeutic concentration (90% of the administered dose) remains in the blood for 8-12 hours. 90% of the drug is excreted by the kidneys in an unchanged state.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, the use of Cefazolin is indicated for the following infectious diseases:

• pneumonia, lung abscess, pleural empyema;

• peritonitis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis of burns, wound infections;

• infectious and inflammatory processes in the urinary tract;

• infections of soft tissues;

• skin infections;

• infections of the osteoarticular apparatus;

• prevention of postoperative complications.

Method of application of Cefazolin

According to the instructions, Cefazolin is administered intravenously or intramuscularly (drip or jet) according to indications.

For intramuscular injections, an antibiotic solution is prepared ex tempore by diluting the contents of one vial in 5 ml of water for injection with sterile or isotonic sodium chloride solution. The medication is injected deep into the muscle tissue.

For intravenous jet injections, a single dose of an antibiotic is diluted in 8-10 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution. The antibiotic should be administered very slowly (over 4-5 minutes).

For intravenous drip administration, the drug (500-1000 mg) is diluted in 5% glucose solution or in 150-250 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution. Cefazolin should be administered within half an hour (the rate of administration is 65-80 drops per minute).

The daily dose of an antibiotic for adults is from 1000 mg to 4000 mg. The daily dose depends on the sensitivity of the pathogen to the drug, as well as on the severity of the infection. A single dose of the drug for adults with infectious and inflammatory processes caused by gram-positive microbes is 250-500 mg every eight hours.

For infectious diseases of the respiratory system of moderate severity caused by pneumococci, as well as infectious and inflammatory processes in the urinary tract, 500 - 1000 mg of medication is prescribed every twelve hours.

For infections caused by gram-negative bacteria, the antibiotic is prescribed at 500-1000 mg every seven to eight hours. In severe infectious diseases (peritonitis, destructive pneumonia, sepsis, endocarditis, hematogenous osteomyelitis in the acute period, urological infections), the daily dose of Cefazolin can be increased to 600 mg (maximum). The interval between injections is six to eight hours.

For children older than a month, the drug is prescribed in a daily dose of 20-50 mg / kg of body weight (in several doses), for very severe infections, 100 mg / kg.

The use of Cefazolin in adults with impaired renal function is carried out according to the corrected scheme (with an increase in the intervals between injections and a gradual decrease in the antibiotic dose).

The daily dose of the antibiotic for children with moderate impairment of renal excretory function is 60% of the standard daily dose of Cefazolin.

The daily dose of medication with significant impairment of renal function is 10% of the standard dose. The interval between injections is at least a day.

Contraindications to the use of Cefazolin

• hypersensitivity to medicines of the cephalosporin group;

• lactation period;

• children's age up to one month;

• pregnancy.

Side effects of Cefazolin

The reviews to Cefazolin say that with prolonged use, the antibiotic often causes diarrhea, vomiting, tachycardia, nausea, allergic reactions - fever, pruritus, urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

In rare cases, long-term use of Cefazolin leads to impaired renal function, to hemolytic disorders.

There are reviews of Cefazolin, confirming that intramuscular administration of an antibiotic is often painful and can cause tissue hardening at the injection site.

Drug interactions

The simultaneous use of Cefazolin and "loop" diuretics leads to a blockade of the tubular secretion of the antibiotic.

The combined use of Cefazolin with ethanol promotes the occurrence of disulfiram-like reactions.

The combined use of Probenecid and Cefazolin in complex therapy leads to a violation of the excretion of the antibiotic.

Storage conditions

Store in a cool, protected from sunlight, at a temperature of at least 25 ° C.
